Easy for someone with authority in the church to just tell someone to go along because god wants it. Very disturbing.

I never thought of this as grooming children, but you're absolutely right. Actually, everything in religion is grooming children to obey authority without question, no matter how harmful or crazy the command is. Thank you for bringing this to light.

As always, I enjoyed your breakdown of the topic of indoctrinating children at a young age by the church. It’s pathetic to see just how far the leadership will go to protect the lies of Joseph Smith. Protecting the actions of a predator is something I hope more will see, and be outraged about. Thank you Lex, for another great clip.

My mom joined when she was in college, causing her non-member boyfriend to break up with her. It's hard to understand why she gave up a life of freedom and chose to join an organization like this. Growing up I saw how she understood all these teachings.. yet turned a blind eye to the red flags.

Why tailor these lessons to children when adults in the church don’t talk about polygamy

Questioning authority is what got me kicked out of Sunday school multiple times as a kid, there were so many questions I had that they never answered, but told me I need to blindly follow, And I did up until a faith crisis, I'm a NevMo, but grew up in an Episcopalian church but also Southern Baptist sometimes. I finally shed religion not too long ago through the help of someone like you, a few other ex Mormons. Even though I can't relate to everything you've been through, The controlling aspect was definitely something.

Being in a mixed-faith marriage with a believing Mormon is so tricky. I have to turn off my brain so much. This, however, cannot stand, I don't think my kids have been exposed to this story yet, but it is out there, and we'll have to talk about it. I don't know how to approach this yet; we've pretty much just landed on the fact that we don't discuss religion at home anymore. I'm appalled, I'm disgusted, I'm furious.

Lexie when I saw this last week I thought it was fake. I cannot believe this lesson. It’s insane! Even when it’s breaking the law over the prophet.

Wish I could double thumbs up this video for the brutally honest critique you give. Glad you got a little bit heated here!!

It's a much better (and more moral) to teach kids to say "no" to sex, even if the leader is asking them to do it. Videos like this set kids up for so much harm.

Nevermo here. Don't Mormons make a big deal about following the Lord gladly? They act that way about tithing. How dare Joseph get all upset over the plural wives command.

Glad you're out Lex. You and your husband are good peeps. Thanks for helping others break free of their programming too.

I am currently doing a service mission. I've noticed that nearly every meeting or discussion revolves around obedience. It really hurts to hear the sister missionaries talk about obedience as a virtue. Same with the adults who run mission sites. It feels like the church leaders are panicking behind the scenes, so they encourage obedience as a virtue and waste our time with afternoon and evening meetings. Oh, they require us to report how much time we spend doing mission service, service at home, free time, and scripture study.

Those little cartoons you found were from Mormonish Podcast!

I honestly think it's just like 1984. Ironic enough that book was what made me realize I was convinced to love big brother (the church of Jesus christ of latter day saints).

Great video. I’m deconstructing my harmful beliefs and this video helped so much with the topic of obedience. Keep it up ❤

Issues like polygamy bring to light clashing paradigms, both of which have a claim to being faithful gospel applications, and both even generally agree that polygamy does not yield good fruits.

Where one side is willing to condemn polygamy on its standalone merits (according to biblical mandate) the orthodox side suspends judgment on the issue because of who it came through. The latter introduces far more moral relativism and boasts a track record rife with bad fruits: Mountain Meadows, perpetuating the race ban, hiding sexual abuse and financial misconduct.

The craziest part is how orthodox members often don’t even realize they’re doing this. My wife and I have had recent discussions about Wicked, where active LDS people don’t see that the Wizard was a fraud and think the metaphor is Elphaba’s rejection of truth. Also discussion with people who have studied WWII and communism in the Eastern Block and can sniff out propaganda from a mile away unless it’s in their own church. It’s bonkers.

Thank you for bringing attention to this. I truly don't understand the church's PR team.

When I was in primary, this wasn’t discussed.

This is proof that the MFMC has never actually removed the doctrine of polygamy. It is just filed under "blind obedience" which is files under several other subheadings so that they can claim they're not blindly obedient.
