Dreszcze po całym ciele za każdym razem kiedy to słyszę... Pamiętam tamte czasy. Czasy ogromnych podziałów. Czasy czarno-białe, w których bardzo prosto rozróżniało się dobro i zło. It is a protest song that was written in 1987, during the dark days of communism, and was originally performed by the band Kult. The lyrics themselves are about the Berlin Wall, the divisions between people and the fact that her body suffers because it too is divided into left and right, with each side doing something different. It is very powerful because when she sings it, the song becomes very topical again and also because it was her last performance with the band Hey, hence the huge emotions. At the time, the pressure at that gig was huge because the political situation in Poland was shitty, and on top of that there were her personal emotions about leaving the band.

So someone else has already posted the meaning of this song- refering to the division of Europe by the Iron Curtain/the Berlin Wall into two completely separate worlds.

This particular performance was also strongly connected to Poland itself- up until recently we had a conservative government which, while supported by half of the society, was hated by the other half. It's a pretty similar situation to the Republican/Democrat party in the US. The division was palpable, you could feel Poland being literally separated in two halves by different ideologies. The lyrics about "right side shining with neons, left side all dark/ left side never wakes up, right side never goes to sleep" were matching perfectly the current situation.

She's not crying because of excitement. This song is about division in general and at that time Poland was strongly divided due to the authoritarian governement we had from 2015.

Her voice is one thing, the song is much more important. This is one of the symbolic songs of the Polish fight against communism.
For us, people born in those times, it is as important as the words of JP2: "Let Your Spirit descend and renew the face of the land... This land!"
Seeing how communism is now being revived again in the European Union - our guts are turning inside out.
