His wife is the most impressive part of that for me. She showed true commitment to him. That is rare. Hope she is at a good place in her life.

I grew up in Czechoslovakia and at the age 30, I had an opportunity to move to Las Vegas, NV. I saw the American Southwest and I knew that this was my home, Czechoslovakia never was. I obtain a university decree, have an amazing life, amazing career and never I looked back. I love the long road trips around Southwest and the desert. I hope you will have a chance to visit one day 😃

Well I'm glad you had fun, my father made a decision similar to this and after becoming a head doctor in the UK, he decided to go to Yemen thinking it will become the next Dubai. Fast forward a few years, he lost his hospital to war, my mother lost all her business and we've been trying to sell our property and land for the past 10 years for a reasonable price and we couldn't. I moved to Canada in 2008 and never looked back. Sometimes emotions take over rationale. And I'm not making those same mistakes no matter how big I make it in any none politically stable country. Moving from average to rich only makes you feel good, but moving from financial freedom to average and hiding from rockets every other day while stuck in a country and a passport that the world refuses is not fun. And I'll teach my kids not to make that same mistake. I'd rather work for McDonald's and live in a tiny room in a western country over living it large in a politically none stable country. At least when push comes to shove, another country will allow me to leave. And so far there's no loving mother that's more amazing than Canada and the western world.

I left Russia 22 years ago. No regrets and I would never go back. US is my home. Sometimes decisions are hard to make but you got to do what makes you happy. Given recent events, my childhood friends I'm still in touch with are telling me I did the right thing by leaving all those years ago so go figure. Immigration is not for everyone.

I completely understand. I live in America 24 years and still cannot lose my Czech culture, traditions, and it's still hard being so far from family as they all live back in Czech. It's not easy even after so many years.

You got an admirable wife who gave up her own career opportunity for you. I do not hear you once talking about your wife’s feelings. Now your ex wife

I left Russia about 12 years ago after more that 25 years there. No, I wouldn’t move back. No way. But I have to admit, times are different.

(French viewer here) Nice story! Love it! (I lived in Great Britain for 20 years..but back in France now.. ).. Its rare in life to have 3 great possible choices ...amazing time! The current tension between USA and Russia must be terrible for you at an emotional level!

I was born in Accra, Ghana 🇬🇭 and I’m a US citizen but the surprising part is, I actually lived in Russia 🇷🇺. I studied at a Russian University in Rostov and later in Belgorod between 2003-2009 & just like you, I had to learn Russian in the early days. I moved to the US shortly after graduating from Russia. It’s kinda sad that this “spetsoperatsiya” has taken away all the progress that was made post perestroyka and I’m praying that all things get back to pre Feb 24. I had some good times in Russia. Good luck to u bratan and be safe. Great videos

As an immigrant myself, I can relate to what Konstantin is talking about. By definition, if your are an immigrant you live two lives: one driven by your heart and the other one driven by your brain and reason. I was in my 20's when I came to the U.S. and I came with nothing: started working hard labor in construction but got interested in computers and programming, got training and ended up doing IT that for well-known companies. America gave me everything: family, jobs, friends, good life; there is no turning back. But for my older years, I want to go back to Europe, and spend some time with family, and when I die, I want my ashes to be scattered there, around nearby river, meadows, and forest where I grew up.

Always stay in a non-dictatorship country. Familiar culture and family are worthless without freedom, IMO.

I'm watching this for the first time on Oct. 13, 2022 after being a subscriber to your channel for the last several months. Now, after the 'special military operation' and the recent mobilisation my heart breaks for you. Who could have ever guessed what the future in Russia would hold? Best wishes for you from Texas.

I know many stories of people returning to their home country and being disappointed.
One underestimates the subtle changes that one goes thru that youre not even aware of.
The success in immigrating lies in the full embrace of the change and of the new home.

I’m from Italy, living in the USA but I feel the same about wanting to go back home. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll get a great job offer, but if I find something good enough to live comfortably…

We REALLY need an update to this video now given your forced restart. You say that you felt that the call to return to Russia was a sign from above, do you still feel this way or do you wish you had stayed in the US? Very interesting things, please keep posting these autobiographical stories!

I came to this video after just recently finding your channel Konstantin, during the special military operation. You have an inspiring life story.. I'm from U.S in NY, at 40 and was finding myself constantly having thoughts that a lack of opportunities the last 10 years, and just stuck in a spinning my tires getting no where rut, waiting for help.. I found this video, and really started to think of my life, and past opportunities that came my way, and how my choices brought me here to my current life.. I never had to start from absolutely zero, and failed to meet my ambitions, but now see that a certain type of "expect to succeed " attitude was in me, and not realizing my privileged position i was put in made me expect more and work less to reach my ultimate goals.. I'm ready to make the life i want for myself, and stop finding excuses to not succeed in reaching them.. You are also again at age 40 finding yourself starting your life over again, with a 3 choice options for your life to go down (Conscription, Jail, or Leave Russia & start over again).. Even after having real obstacles keeping you from being able to live your "Russian Dream", i have no doubt that you will find the strength as you have in the past to find the success you desire, and spin another inspiring chapter in your life's story.. Thank you for sharing it with us all, its helped me see the world, and my life a bit differently and im better for it.. P.s Ive vacationed in Saco Bay, ME, what an amazing place to have lived while here!

Answering your question, I would've probably stayed in the US and would've moved to CA, but that's just me and the explanation would be probably futile. Your story touched me and pulled tears in my eyes. I don't know why, probably because your story is so human and cherry on the cake that your wife (then wife?) went with you. Thanks for this story. By the way I'm an immigrant, would NEVER go back to my birth country and although I resonate with every word you said, that's another story. Thank you! Keep going, friend.
