Real Talk about why I don't like living in the United States anymore and why I can't see myself ever returning. I had invested a lot of time and money to research and travel the world to find where I best fit in, which culture I feel more comfortable in. After almost 6 years of continues life abroad, I really can't see myself ever going back.

David, I live is the US. I make a 6 figure salary and feel unsatisfied and trapped. Looks like you have found the right balance in Colombia. People in the US have actually gotten colder and more removed in the last few years.

what he is saying is true! America is lonely. People stay indoor too often, no activity, and later they start having mental issues!

I’m from Chile and met a now crazy American woman and ended up marrying her and moved to the US, very much against my instincts. 20 years later and three kids and now divorced all I want is to go back, I’ve never liked it here, it’s all about money and politics, and most people are stressed out, overworked, angry, unfriendly, intolerant, and competitive….I miss my culture everyday, I’m down to a couple of friends who are not Americans either and they hate it here and want to go back too. What’s sad is how ignorant Americans are of the rest of the world and what little they know about life in other places where people might not be rich but they live basic human lives with lots of friends, family, parties, and naps in the middle of the day.

Born and raised in the US (Long Island, NY) and I never ever felt like I fit in here, which had led me to feel isolated all my life. Creo que es tiempo de salirme de aqui para siempre.

Walking 🚶‍♂️ anywhere in the United States can get people to believe that you’re homeless and it can also be seen as suspicious!

You said, "You feel very isolated in the States", You hit the Nail in the head. That's Exactly what I am going through here, and I hate it!!! This morning I waived my hand to say "Hi" to a lady who lives in my Apartment Complex and She looked at me as if I just committed a crime by saying "hello" to her and gave me a dirty look, and they all do that here!!! .

I spent two years in USA and from my perspective it is definitely true what you say. Consumerism culture, no walkable, tense atmosphere surrounding many things, and overall highly competitive place. On the other hand absolutely great place if you are wealthy - outdoor possibilities, trails, and access to everything money can buy. Certainly not the preferred place for non materialistic people not interested in the rat race

I’m stuck here and can’t wait to get the hell out!

I agree with you 100%. I just went to Colombia two months ago, after many years of not visiting Medellin. This super consumption society is killing the USA. We’re competing with each other constantly……New car every 3 years, new iPhone every year, and on and on.

I have lived abroad for the past 22 years, so I understand and relate to EVERYTHING you talk about. I used to be one of those proud (arrogant) Americans who believed the US was the greatest country in the world. Until I experienced living in other countries did I realize the US is very far from being the greatest. All countries have their challenges, but it seems that in these recent years, the US has so many more. Enjoy your life in Colombia!

Update: we left Europe last year and have been in the US since then. We feel miserably isolated here even though we’ve lived in 2 major cities. It’s horrible. We have to drive 30 minutes to the gym or walk 60 to the grocery

I moved from London to California and I really do miss walking around with my headphones on. "Let's go out to eat" is something I hear a lot from my American friends. Back in London, I didn't eat out a lot. We'd get fish n' chips and eat at the park and then walk some more. I miss all the walking.

I like how you say "buenas" to strangers in the streets. I lived in Mexico for two years and now live in Brazil. In Brazil nobody says hello in the streets, i miss Mexican people

Too many miserable people in the U.S. everyone seems to want to be a millionaire here and walk around with a crappy attitude cause they aren’t. It’s an unfortunate Reality.

I was recently in Leon Mexico. I walked everywhere every day. I could have rented a car but it didn't feel necessary. Everyone seemed to walk to actually enjoy the trees, walkways, air, and even the rain. I would never do that in the U.S. I don't know what it is. I feel miserable in the U.S. There is a change in the U.S. the vibe is awful and heavy, not for me. I can see how people who are stuck in that bubble can't see it or have no way out. I'm glad I woke up and I am much happier now.

I am totally agree with you, I live in USA and I am from Colombia and all things you are saying I am living them and feeling them . I can't wait the day I can go back to live in my country again. I am planning to go back there when my son finishes highschool and leaves home to go to college. You have said many words I used when I came like "gost towns" where is the people? Where is the life? Why there are not sidewalks? Why is this town build just for cars? Why everytime to go out with friends is to eat? Can we just talk without food in our mouth? Anyways this country has giving me financial opportunities to be able to go back and have a good life in my country and I am grateful for that!

I understand you 100 percent.I lived in a neighborhood in Atlanta for 5 years and never once met or talked to any of my neighbors.I can't wait travel again, I noticed people outside the US are more social and friendly.

I live in Mexico and Colombia, split between each. Many people I talk to cite the stress of living in the US as their main reason why they left and won't go back. I suspect the stress is also contributing to the aggression that you discussed.

I also think we have created a hermit culture in the US because, as you stated, we go to our jobs and come home, shut the doors, and spend the evenings by ourselves doing whatever. We don't make time to go out and have to schedule appointments with friends. Nobody is spontaneous anymore. You can't just call a friend and go do something.

But we need to be busy with our jobs in order to pay for our overpriced homes and new cars. We demand this lifestyle and it comes with lots of work and stress.

And don't get me started on dating. It's a terrible, awful mess and has been for years. The social life in the US is horrible.

I lived in Houston for six years and never owned a car. I rode a bike. When I walked people thought my car had broken down or that I was homeless. I hate car cities.
