Suffering is another word for sanctification; He chips away at our flesh leaving our renewed hearts. Can we trust that Romans 8:28 is true. He weeps with us and comforts us but uses the pain of sin to bring us closer. Thanks for the reminder.

This is the first time I had heard of suffering in this context and I really was touched by it. I’m a fellow sufferer most of life and have studied suffering…this was a new take. Thank you so much …. From 🇨🇦✝️💟

Wow, that blew me away today. God be praised! It's amazing how you can read through scripture over and over and there's always more that comes out of it, and that's why I always want to remain teachable. Blessings

Thank you. You speak of suffering so differently than all the past non-LCMS pastors i have known.

Thanks Pastor! Looking back over my life of nearly 60 years, I can see clearly that David was right in Psalm 119. It is indeed good to be afflicted, thought we don't appreciate it at the time....but we have God...that grieves! Heartfelt Pastor. Thank you. Interesting that Keinig translated work as well!

I read through the Bible at least once per year. I keep waiting for when I read the story of Joseph and not cry when he reveals himself. Why? Literally no other story makes me weep like this one. Every… time…

I got scared when you raised both hands over the wheel, then I noticed you were stopped. Lol! I saw the play “Joseph” at Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster, Pa. So I can picture the scene. Loved it. Wonderful story and this lesson.

I have been looking at the different exiles of the Israelites, the Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian resettlement and Greek and Roman subjugation. Your "Sunday School in Babylon" of 4weeks ago set me on the path of thought that comes to a preliminary thought: When God disciplines "a people of unclean lips" (Isaiah 6) he leaves a witness and a remnant; those who have been faithfully waiting for the fulfilment of the promise. Are those "looking for the consolation of the Lord" misguided? (Psalm 42:10, Luke 2:25-38)

What verse are you referring to in Psalm 119?

In all the cases you described, God did indeed deliver His people through suffering. I think we should ponder God's purpose when we suffer. And yet, I don't believe this theological concept can be universally applied. Example: the suffering of a mother who has lost a child is not deliverance; it is purely suffering.

A question from a father who has come to love Lutheran theology,

Brother, I have but one question. If Joseph is the Jesus type (and I believe this) and he saved Israel through feeding them ALL, and Moses is the Jesus type, who through him baptized into, watered from the rock and fed ALL of Israel from the bread and quail, why then in Christ, in whom the fullness of these things have been given to His baptized children, and showed in many ways that children are fed (the 5000), are children who can “eat/drink” kept from the spiritual food unless they have shown by their intellect they understand it what Christ freely would give them? Everyone I have ever asked only cites 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 and Paul’s third use of the law against an unruly congregation as justification.

I’ll take the answer in a PM if you have any free time to answer it. If not, God be with you none the less.
