Just had my brake pads replaced. I was told that I just need to run them in to stop the sticking (about 100 miles!). I asked garage if they checked the calipers but was told they were fine. I don't need to use my brakes going down hill, the wheel is that stiff. I wish I'd seen your video first, would of saved me paying somebody to do a job the clearly half did.
I've just followed your instruction this morning and took my bike for a run and the pistons are fully operational. Thanks for your help.

The problem with this is, that rust can form on the walls of the caliper not just on the piston. Particulary in the grooves where the gaskets for the piston fit. Those can't be accessed unless you fully extract the pistons. It is kind of a sloppy job this way. I would advice anyone to fully remove and clean the thing, replace the seals inside. Your life depends on these things working perfectly..

Brilliant advice Alex! Thank you. I'm gonna try that on my old 1980 Honda 750 Super Sport. I'll get back to ya whether it works or not... HOPE it does tho..

Thank you very much. This loss looks pretty easy to do. I hope it works for me. George

Will this method work on the rear brake calipers too?

Got Honda's CB1100SF and CBR1100XX Blackbird 2002 models, and to avoid all that I clean my brake calipers once a year with WD40, and they are good as new, plus it protects the pistons from corrosion, WD40 won't damage the piston seals or any type of seals in your bike, it works really well.

Alex, can the same method you used fixing a sticky front caliper be used for the sticky rear caliper? Thanks.

Hey, mine has two caliper pistons. I was trying to (i) clean the caliper using the brake spray. (ii) put new brake pads (iii) bleed the brake fluid. Everything was going well until I applied the brakes without the brake pads! Now, one of the caliper pistons has come out and protruding not allowing the brake pads to sit in their place. I'm planning to put it bank in its place exactly like how you described in this video. But why only one of the pistons came out, not both at this same time in my case? Does that indicate there's a problem with the piston? Also, I have removed the caliper assembly from the brake hose, will I be able to get the piston retracted to its place when there's no oil going to them? Thank you for any help!

Hmm should you not use brake fluid instead of the grease as the grease will mix with the fluid when the piston is forced back in?

Would break fluid work instead of white lithium grease?

Good video. Only thing I would do differently is put some folded cardboard or cloth where the wrench meets the piston. Metal to metal contact makes me paranoid :P

So who else noticed that as he was pushing the piston back in, he was pushing the other one on the opposite side out. just something to watch out for.... they do make a mess If they pop out.

Good vid, but i think you sprayed your rotor with grease. Use isopropyl to wipe down the rotors before you use the brake
