ATTENTION: When wiping with alcohol, always test a small area first. Stop rubbing the area when you see the gummy film disappear. If the alcohol strips off too much paint, then the only other way is to use a no-scratch pot scrubber with WD-40, and it's a lot of work. Thanks guys!

Gasoline, a rag, some elbow grease ! Just did it yesterday on an old multimedia hdd box here . Worked very well with no traces remaining . Did it outside of course.

I have these exact same earphones and I searched YouTube on how to remove the sticky surface. Imagine my suprise when this is the first video that pops up! Thank you so much for this video! I'll definitely try this out and add a couple of more years of life into my otherwise perfectly working HyperX headphones 😊

I can't believe I never thought of using alcohol and WD-40! I've had so many things get gummy after years of use and I've tried so many cleaners. I usually can get it off but not without rubbing my fingers down to bone or slightly damaging the plastic. This video is gold! Over the years you've helped me out a lot with tid bits like this. Thanks my friend. 🍻 You always come through with good advice. 👍👍

As a dj, I like cleaning my devices and I have seen that tackiness on controller knobs, volume faders, cdj platter rings, macbook power cables, headphones, etc. I used soapy water thinking it was finger oils but scrubbing would take time. I started using alcohol and soft cloth to wipe them and get rid of the tackiness like in your video. I haven't thought about using WD-40 but I will consider it for the next time. Thank you for sharing this video!
PLEASE GUYS ALWAYS REMBER TO AVOID PRINTED WORDS BECAUSE YOU MAY ERASE THEM FROM REMOTES OR DJ CONTROLLERS. for controllers use soap and water on a damp cloth slowly.

Thank you so much!!! My husband got same problem with his $300 Maui Jim sunglasses! He didn't use them two years (because use them only for vacation trips - big fishing trips) well and only today found this problem. My poor husband was like a baby - "It is my favorite sunglasses!!!! They are my lucky fishing glasses! I worn them when I caught my biggest fish in different countries! 😭" I told him: Don't cry my Love. I will fix it! Nice smart people from youtube know how do it! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This solution worked great! The only insight I would add is that it takes a lot more rubbing and scrubbing than I expected. But it definitely works!

Wow! I've suddenly noticed this sticky business on a couple of USB sticks, an umbrella handle, and the handle of a hair brush. Can't wait to try your advice.

Just did this on my HyperX Cloud Alpha headset and it seems to work really well. Zero stickyness left after using the alcohol and WD40. I just wish I could have properly disassembled the headset so I could get into the annoying bits around the hinges, but I digress. Thank you for this tip!

Exactly what I was looking for. I have the same headphone and was wondering how to clean it. Thanks for the tip.

Perfectly cleaned my little red flash drive that was driving me crazy. Thank you!! I had tried using alcohol to clean other sticky things, but when the color started coming off I got scared. Now I know it doesn't strip everything and am going to, as they say, Clean All the Things.

Excellent demo. All you need is two ingredients and they are dead easy to obtain. So this is most useful to know the tricks.

Thanks for this. I had some In Ear Monitor receivers that had this exact issue. I used first aid alcohol prep pads and they cleaned up the sticky residue in a cinch!
