Frostpunk 2 Review

Frostpunk 2 reviewed by Dan Stapleton on PC.
Building up multiple colonies, researching technologies, and passing laws in Frostpunk 2 is quite the act of plate-spinning. Just about anything you do is bound to make one of your city’s factions angry at you, and a powerful storm can literally and figuratively freeze your whole economy. This is a city-building sequel that might have lost some of the intimacy of the original by thinking bigger, but what it’s gained through its ambitious philosophy of reinvention rather than iteration means you can play it immediately after the original and not feel like you’ve done most of this before.

This game's UI design deserves an award. So beautiful

Gave it an 8. Too much snow to give it a 10.

If Frostpunk 2 is so good, why isn't there a Frostpunk 2 2?

Such a pleasant surprise to see Dan Stapleton is still in gaming journalism. Have been a fan since PC Gamer.

This is the best game review I've watched in a while, very fair and unbiased

game about micro management has "busy work." In other news Snow is white....

Unless its yellow which is how it feels every time IGN have a quality game reviewed by someone who isn't a fan and sounds passionless.

Frostpunk 3 should be combination of frostpunk 1 and 2. Bigger scale but with micro scenes we love at punk1

One of my personal favorites is frostpunk, what a beautiful game that was and finally my wait for the sequel is over. Hope this makes game of the Year or at least nominated

While I have no experience with management sims, the compelling art direction makes me want to give it a try.
If the first entry created a more intimate feel however, it seems I should start there...
Thanks, Dan 🙌🏻

Why did they get rid of the up close radial city? That was the best part of the game.

I’ll really miss the small scale of the first game 😢I’ll still give it a try, but definitely at a big discount in 6months-1year+

@2:00 "Feels like busy work" this is an example of optimising the fun out the game.

Kids will hate on IGN, and still watch their videos and say 7?

They got lazy. It would have been really hard to retain the intimate depth of the first game while expanding on the building mechanics and overall scale... so they didn't.
They chose scale and a more generic city builder approach, and forsook a lot of what made Frostpunk unique and intimate.
