Not every game can live up to it's predecessor, especially when a game so unique that it spawns a new subgenre after its release. But when you're already capable of blazing new trails, you might as well keep trying to do it with your follow-up game.

Sure, you'll have to be able to tolerate boundless resource management, micromanaging logistics, and tedious bureaucracy, but if you don't like all of that, you probably don't even like city builders to begin with.

I think the main issue with this game is what I can only call "the writing". The game wants to expand the scope from survival to thriving, and from autocracy to democracy, but it doesn't quite manage it because it doesn't quite deliver on the reality of that scope. The politics is bipartisan and gets reduced to "let the faction whose buildings you don't like as much get to make proposals you end up shutting down anyway", and the polarities of the zeitgeist system are strange too sometimes. It feels kinda token. Also none of the systems interact with each other in any ways that make sense. Apparantly you need to vote in laws but deploying 6 city blocks you can just do with no complaints from anyone. It's just less than the sum of it's parts.

Bought it, played it, asked for a refund...

It's not a Civ game it's closer to a board game or a Moble app game. It's a game were half the gameplay is just turning on and off building's to keep certain resources from running out.

Wholeheartedly disagree. I don't think people wanted frozen city skylines 🤷‍♂️ Oh, 1500 people died? Pfft, who cares, SEND WOMEN TO THE BIRTHING HOUSES. Cold at home? Wow, the bubble gets bigger and fuller, very scary.

Frostpunk 1 had my heart beating so hard, I felt like I had to hold out just as much as all the freezing and sick citizens during the storm. And the music... disappointing after amazing FP1 violins 🎻

My major complaint is that it's uglier, a city builder that is ugly is a dealbreaker for many, i liked the politics system but still can get past of how ugly the city looks, simplified symbols don't help.
