the obvious answer is that you want to accelerate out of the apex of your turn, otherwise you’ll never overtake your rival and you’re doomed to finish last

Chill driving instructor. Mine would've went crazy if I was driving on the wrong side of the road

This must be why it's hard to get a license in the UK. Mfs never tell you what you did wrong, they jus tell you you're wrong.

Driving instructor here. There is nothing wrong with this because of the speed of the car. Coasting for long periods of time is not great and frowned upon and usually a cause of a minor fault on the driving test. Coasting around bends at speed or all the way around roundabouts can cause major faults for lack of engine braking. This girl turned in slowly and controlled and she potentially would have needed to have stopped once she turned if there was a parked car on the corner of the road so in many ways it was a good thing she coasted too depending on how you look at it. This driving instructor has marked a fault for Coasting because he is an instructor and not an examiner. An examiner would not fault this.

She should’ve used the heel and toe technique while counter steering, matching the rpm’s to reduce clutch ware while also retaining control of the throttle, while trail breaking gently out of the curve and accelerating slightly to loosen a bit of the rear to make a tighter turn and let inertia return the car to its initial position. This would’ve allowed the sensei to yell “K-kansaii Dorifto!!” And she shouldn’t have brought shame to her dad’s tofu shop.

I love it when they present a question, then provide no answer! It’s a great teaching technique!! Lol

so... thanks video for explaining the question in your own video... makes total sense.

"Coasting = no engine braking."

That's the GOOD thing about coasting.
It's pretty much the whole point.

My dad told me that you wanna be in gear during a turn so you can focus 100% on the turn. Not sure if that's the answer you're looking for but it has served me well.

For people wondering why the instructor didn’t say anything: this is a mock test and he will go over everything afterwards, hence the clip board. Driving instructors in the uk will often tell you everything you need to know on how to drive safely and pass the test, just like any other country I would hope. Driving tests will function like any test in the way that they tally mark how many major or minors you get and if you get either one major or above 15 minors, they’ll give you directions to take you back to the test centre.

*Scribbles on piece of paper* “fantastic feet, had to sneak me a peak” *continues to draw feet all over score sheet*

Edit: lowkey just saw that there was a little square showing she’s clearly wearing sneakers 😂

Two reasons, leaving the manual transmission in gear to slow down can help slow down because you have negative pressure from the engine, also the gear that moves the gear lube in the manual transmission is not turned by the drive shaft it's turned by the input shaft and when you take it out of gear you no longer have gear lube circulation and will eventually cause damage to the transmission

Explanation (experience only, not a driving instructor)
1) when you coast, you are continually loading the release bearing (heat and wear)
2) you are likely to have chosen the wrong gear as beginner and, it becomes either a stall, stress or even accident when releasing the clutch in the turn or after
3) you fatigue much faster, holding a clutch in at every turn
4) you ALWAYS preselect a gear before the turn and go into the turn with this gear, winter driving will become much safer this way, as well as fast cornering
5) if you slipped off the clutch in a turn, it's bad news for everybody involved
6) you can accelerate out of the turn much smoother, when clutched
7) emergency braking is taught by emphasizing both feet stomping on both left pedals. New drivers won't have the coordination dialed in yet.
8) you might develop a bad habit of declutch and neutral coast, which in certain transmissions leads to lubrication problems and damage (RTFM)
