Yes, when you put the car in neutral or hold the clutch down the engine needs to stay idle to keep itself on so your using fuel but very little still BUT if you leave it in gear and come completely off the accelerator then it's better your completely using no fuel and traveling for free. See for yourself on the eco settings of your car while you drive if you have a modern car.

If I was teaching someone to drive manual and they coast with foot on clutch that would be strike 2 automatically

You would have to know what you are doing to benefit from Coasting if you need to Brake you would not to put in Neutral or Start Coasting 🤦
.
However if you need to gain speed going downhill or in Traffic you don't ever need to press the gas pedal which save you fuel

Ehh wrong kinda. You are right but here is the exception. Engine brake. So by letting off and the rpm’s are up you are slowing the vehicle vs just rolling. Example. I get 40 mpg in my car through the mountains 100% highway if I throw it in neutral down all the hills. Stick shift but if I am driving normal and have it in 5th gear through the mountains I am burning more and only get 35 mpg. Keep in mind it is a accent so I am dropping to 4th gear uphill both times because of the lack of power but all other factors are the same. Or near same temp and time of day humidity and direction of travel.

Is neutral better when there is a red light and you slow down for it ?

Bull, coasting in neutral saves tonnes more than being in gear with all the drag of the engine and gearbox, the only thing true about this is you have less control in neutral

It’s stupid to coast with your foot on the clutch tho
