It is remarkable that TN has such a large Vaishnavite temple. I have never visited this one, but most famous temples I have heard of in TN are Shaivite/Shakti ones like Thanjavur, Rameshwaram, Chidambaram and Meenakshi Amman. Of course, Chidambaram does have Vishnu and Shiva as presiding deities, but I have heard stories about Shaivite-Vaishnavite conflicts behind it.

hello everyone...i am from Croatia and actually know a thing or two about this magnificent temple(knowledge is real power, followers of Dharma will agree)
Ranganatha is actually Lord Vishnu in his relaxed position, laying down on serpent king, and is also know in that position as Lord Narayna. Devi Lakshmi is next to him. but temple also has all kinds of shrines, Brahma, Shiva, Ganesha are there as well...there are many shrines. Only Angkor Vat is larger hindu temple that this one. in front of this main tower is i think like golden vimana....maybe i am wrong
Ranganathaswamy is almost 3000y old and is UNESCO world heritage site....I would very much love to visit it
for all hindu if you are wondering why a Christian and Croat would have any interest in hindu temples....well there are oral legends among my people which are called "Veyske povede" and they have been written down, Supreme God is called Se Višnu there. and we bare a name of goddess Sarvati....in avestan it is Harwati, today terminology is Hrvati. peace be with all of you. 1.16000 Vaishnavites were killed during Malik Kafur invasion during 14th century.

2.Ranganathar idol was taken to Tirumala Tirupati for 48 years. (You may find RangaMandapam on the left side while entering Tirumala Temple). Within 48 years Sultans were driven out.

3.Sri Vaishnavism has 108 Prominent Tirupatis. Sri Rangam is the first Tirupati.

4.In 108 temples, Perumal can be found in 3 postures- Sleeping, Position, Standing Position and Sitting Position

5.Ranganathar is in Sleeping position.
