Rental rates are down for the ninth straight month in Vancouver compared to a year ago, but as Monika Gul reports, that trend may be changing.

The issue is not only rent in Canada or specially Vancouver is high, but also the average salary is low compare to other places with high rent like San Francisco, New York, LA, etc. Rent over average salary is literally in the top 3 of the world.

Rent fee drop cause some people moved to other province such as Alberta, Saskatchewan, and so on. Next the rent fee in Alberta jumped, people moved to other province. It's a never ending story. Supply Vs Demand!! As simple as that!! The point is to many people came to Canada, but housing are not enough to accomodate them.

Salary to rent ratio in Vancouver and Toronto makes Zurich budget friendly. I lived in both Toronto and Zurich.

The entire country needs to recalculate housing costs with new initiatives for all threads that feed this crisis addressed. An 'optic' price drop doesn't count.
In addition, the policies must prevent pitting landlords and tenants against each other.

People will just leave eventually. Landlords want tenants to pay their mortgage, well people are waking up and not having it! Let’s see in a year.
