The most annoying thing British people (or any non American really) is when they generalize us based on what they've seen in movies/tv and (this is especially annoying) act like they're better because they don't act that way.

In reality America is a significantly bigger country. We have all different types of people and are rather hard to generalize. For every dumb American you find annoying or are laughing at, there is another person who acts completely different.

I’ve noticed American sarcasm is generally more broad and outrageous than British sarcasm. You have to listen a little more closely to pick up the British sarcasm sometimes, it can be dry.

My weirdest experience in Britain was being told I speak “excellent English for a Russian”. Not wanting to be rude, I said “thank you”.

He asked where in Russia I was from. I told him Dallas.

He replied “I had no idea there’s a Dallas in Russia.”

I said “I don’t think there is. I’m from Dallas, Texas.”

Without missing a beat, he said “Well, you speak wonderful English for an American.”

They say these are things that drive Americans crazy but then they start complaining about things Americans do. 🤷‍♀️I don’t know anymore....

Tipping isn't a culture thing. It's because servers get paid a few dollars an hour and depend on tips to make up the difference in their paychecks. For instance, a server makes around $2.13 an hour. Whereas a person who doesn't work for tips, such as Mc Donalds makes a minimum wage of around $8 an hour. However, this is changing in December 2018.

American and British sarcasm just have a completely different delivery.

The reason why we tip in America is because the waiters in restaurants make half of the minimum wage and rely on tips (if you didn’t already know that). I think they should get paid well and we shouldn’t have to tip them 🤷‍♀️

When Brits don’t know when sarcasm crosses the line and becomes rudeness . . .
When Americans don’t know when emotional transparency becomes TMI . . .

American stereotypes:
Holy heck. Okay the reason why a lot of Americans are so offended or seem to be more offended is because our country is crazy big and there are so many regional differences that a stereotype usually only applies to one part of one region and people apply it to the whole country when two states over its entirely a different situation

😂😂 Americans aren’t sarcastic?!? That is the most untrue statement I have ever heard!

In America waiters make 2.50 an hour that's why tipping is important

For me these are mildly annoying, and I still love Brits, but...

1) calling someone, "typical American."
2) England alone has a legion of accents, and dialects, but they will correct your pronunciation every time.
3) Saying" Americans do not do things properly, i.e., the English way.
4) British perceptions being highly influenced by film, television, and the internet, but claiming Americans have no clue about other people, cultures, etc.
5) Brits buying into numerous stereotypes, while insisting that's an American thing.

No disrespect here. As I've said, these are very minor things to me, and I've loads of respect and admiration for the Brits.

You can add Brits talking about American politics to the list. :)

I was born in America but my family is 100% European and the thing I don’t like is how people (In general) judge a race, or community based off of what their experiences are with ONE person there..like not every American is annoying and i would like to say that it isn’t right to judge or assume something like saying us American don’t understand sarcasm I mean SOME people get it and others don’t, at the end of the day we are ALL people who are DIFFERENT and it doesn’t matter where we were born or where we live

Um...not sure why you think we lack sarcasm. I feel like I can't avoid sarcasm. It's everywhere.

It's most annoying when Brits form their opinions of Americans by what the mainstream media tells you.

Americans don't have sarcasm? You hang in the wrong circles if you think that. Lol

Hugging is big part of the southern US culture (where I live and was raised). When I encounter someone who isn't from the south, I have to remind myself not to 'go in' for a hug lol 😆
