7:30 Just gonna mention the Novel «  Prisoners of the Waaagh » where some Imperial Guards are enslaved by Orks to help (re)build a Gargant…. But even in the book, it is mentioned the Warboss only does this because they lost their Grots in a previous battle…
And this book really does show the darker aspects of the Orks, like butchering « Humies » in Pit-fights as recreational shows or just dismembering a dude just because they liked the sound of his bones cracking and his « Funny screams »…
Yeah… Orks can be horribly cruel…

I think chaos would be the scariest, because while it is commonly depicted with their demons and cults and whatnot, if you consider that you could be attacked by incorporeal otherworldly manefestations of several different forms of suffering incarnate, I think that puts them a step above the tyranids. The tyranids are definitely the king of physical threat, but considering the dark eldar kill you way harder than the tyranids, and both fractions inevitably kill you, while chaos can literally be forever, I think they are firmly number 1 for me

I think one thing that maybe wasn't considered with Chaos is how the corruption of the ruinous powers might make the war scarier over time. An aspect of the chaos gods that I felt was decently shown in the HH novel Know No Fear, or the third book of the Word Bearer series, was how the corruption of chaos worked to psychologically attack and destroy what the defenders had previously loved and called home. Using their own minds, relationships, and memories as a tool to either drive them insane or corrupt them. Not sure if that would have made a difference in the ranking, but feel like that is another aspect which would be relevant to someone's experience of such an invasion.

I would say what would be most terrifying opponent would be Tyranids
You as normal person cant do anything to that is bigger than Tyranid warrior
You just get consuned
There is just pure despair that you know you are just food for the hivefleet
Even smallest tyranid lifeforms just consumes you down on the hatch

I keep having this head canon where Wes is a researcher for a (semi radical) Inquisitor. She's kinda new (only a few Exterminatus under her belt). He's so enthusiastic but not driven mad by it all that she is also studying him to see if she can duplicate it (he doesn't know that). So she hauls him everywhere now.

I wouldn't sell the Necron so short if I were you. When you understand what it truly is like to fight them, you realize their horror is a lot greater than most think. I recall one Warhammer novel "Hellforged" I think it was, where a human officer took one look at the assembled Necrons and put a bolt through his own brain. And that was well after he had been fighting them for a bit. In the book, they remarked that the most terrifying thing about the Necrons, was how silent they were, how cold, how unfeeling, how utterly uncaring. Then there was the defenders inability to put them down. How frightening is a foe that no matter how hard you fight, no matter how much damage you inflict, they just get right back up and start killing again? Grinding you down to nothing, while making a mockery of your feeble attempts at fighting back. Also, bear in mind, the Necrons are the only 40k race to have "killed an entire race of gods" on their resume, twice. . . Oh, wait sorry, one race they killed, the other they turned into the world's scariest pokemon. But yes, they will usually kill you quickly.

For me the main thing with tyranids is the shadow creating that fear and panic for months if not years. Plus the entire ecosystem is subjected to horrifying mutation preceding the invasion

In terms of the video title I think you got it pretty much bang on! I honestly would rank Drukhari and Chaos at the same tier or more or less equally. In expanding the title theme to most horrifying generally, it's got to be Tyranids and Necrons. Tyranids are completely unknown and unknowable and are literally unaware of any suffering they cause, and Necrons have no reason to fear death, and are bound by their machine protocols to bring anything with a soul to a state of inanimacy; and failing that, systematically eliminate them. Like, a genocide on anything that has a soul. 😂 Don't get it twisted, Drukhari have the most grimdark potential, but against Chaos they'd lose in every way; scared of Slaanesh? Lol, we'll take you to see it ASAP! Okay, thanks for my TEDtalk coming to.
