I live in a small town. Here's what the locals value:

- Big trucks that cost the driver $700/mo (where most of their money goes while they spend the rest of the month complaining about how broke they are and then blaming Biden for gas prices)

- Running into everyone you ever went to school with at the grocery store, the bank, the bar, a random house party, and even in traffic.

- being bored and nosy and knowing the latest gossip on all of these said acquaintances.

- being lowkey racist and homophobic

- being Republican

- football games

- caring way too much about your child's performance at their sports game

- Not going to church but claiming to be the most Christian person ever

- Fishing

I'm from a small town. My 31 year old history teacher got his 18 year old girlfriend pregnant and then slept with my 16 year old classmate. Now he's the school district superintendent 🙃 And that's just one example of these stellar small town values.

Small town values: methamphetamines, teenage pregnancy, driving while intoxicated, conspiracy theories, fighting a culture war by voting against self-interests… the list goes on and on.

Growing up in a small town i thought it was neighbors helping neighbors and minding your own business but then i grew up. Now i understand the kindness is an act to your face and everyone is minding everyone else's business. Its bigotry, a hateful version of Christianity, gossip, rampant substance abuse, infidelity, all with a sickly sweet cover.

I grew up in a small town. No stoplights, 2 gas stations, 1 grocery store, 3 bars, a pizza parlor and a corner drugstore. Drugs, alcoholism, child abuse, marital infidelity, racism, every vice you can imagine-it was there.
