What is public health exactly?
Показать описание
Hello,
This mini-lecture series explores the art and science of public health, which is very dear to my heart.
I invite you to partake in an exciting journey related to public health theory, practice and research. You will discover that public health professionals and workers provide essential health care services for the prevention, promotion and restoration of health across the lifespan.
I would argue that when public health is doing its job effectively, then the collective efforts of various public health care professionals and workers are often unnoticed and invisible to most until something dramatic appears on the horizon for them to problem solve and manage (e.g., outbreak or pandemic). Indeed, we often take it for granted that water we drink in many developed nations is safe to drink and free of potentially deadly pathogens, that are food supplies are safe, and that school-based immunization programs help protect our children against a variety of vaccine preventable diseases (e.g., polio, TB, hepatitis A & B, measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, etc).
In this first lecture we explore the question of "What is public health exactly"? I hope that you enjoy this video and others in the lecture series. Thank-you for listening.
