Excellent Video - for all - entry, mid-career, senior leader. A must listen/view. The quadrant graph organizes one's thinking.

Hey mate, your teaching style is exceptional. Great analogies, metaphors and concrete examples. I taught for nine years and rarely saw educators who have this capacity. You also strike me as an educator who is in service of the students and not themselves and that's another rare quality. Cracking job, mate. All the best.

Really helpful for me as I venture into the beautiful realm of Public Health. There's always room to learn no matter where you are! Thank you, Dr. Martin!

Yes, management skills are sorely undervalued in public health. Solicitation of feedback and managerial knowledge of the nitty gritty of the work is not there in my state agency. The managers see their work as being easy; they simply decree their ideas the best (authoritarian style) and ignore the festering issues in ancient business processes, only paying lip service to the idea of making improvements long enough to zone out for the day on poorly organized conference calls.

The managers are lucky if they have someone they supervise that actually cares about the processes, but it will be an uphill battle to get change from that starting point. Public health in America must be in an even sorer shape than the system of Ireland, where there is at least acknowledgement of the value of public life.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

This is a great video, I especially like the quandrants. It gave me a better idea of where to focus my knowledge seeking to become a stronger public/global health candidate. I just completed my masters in international development and worked in Liberia for 6 years in the education and health sectors. I have functional knowledge (quadrant 3) and currently taking online courses through CDC to gain the technical knowledge (quadrant 1), so it is necessary for me to get a second masters? Do you have any suggestions of my approach for breaking in to the field?

Thanks Greg. Good video for all levels . Well presented and summarized through the quadrant model. Fully endorse the importance of management, governance and leadership in Public Health, based on more that 30 years in Public Health, half of which has been with the WHO

Dr. Greg,

This is one of the very few motivating content I have come across. I think it's time I advance my knowledge in public health/Global health by going for MPH or related course, to complement my M.Sc. Social Work - Community Development and B.Tech in Animal Production in Health.
