The Swiss army had last fought in 1847, during the Sonderbund, a short civil war. Since then, Swiss troops had only twice been mobilised against possible invasion, when threatened by Prussia in 1856-57, and during the 1870-71 Franco-Prussian War.

A very topical topic. Especially in countries next to Russia like Finland. Finland actually has similar system as Swizerland. Capability is probably not as good as in Swizerland but nonethless Finland has loads of Civil Shelters built beneath the groud in case of a war. Huge shelters and under surface tunnels are build beneath the cities in the bedrock for example in Helsinki. Also law requires that bomb shelters are built on every building of certain size. Not sure how well they can handle nukes.

It's really pathetic when I live in the richest and most powerful country on Earth and I am jealous of a country that cares enough about its people (and potential refugees) enough to make sure there are bunkers for all. We can't even get healthcare for all. But here we are in March 2022 and with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the potential for nuclear annihilation, I really wish I had access to one of those bunkers. I are skurred 😨😱
