Always enjoy listening to TM's thoughts but for those of you who don't have a lot of time, here is a summary:

1. Long term consistency trumps short term intensity (Think Long Term)
2. Focusing on building strength in the fundamental movements is more valuable to gains than focusing on the minutiae of technique (Strength > Technique)
3. Get the basics really, really down before going into the fancier stuff (Less Goals, More Gains)

Happy New Year, Tom. This video is a nice reminder for me to stop chasing progressions and just get strong at the basics. And anyhow, getting strong and making basic bodyweight exercises effortless can be just as fulfilling as achieving a high level skill.

Thanks for this video Tom! I've been on and off with Bodyweight training for 3 years and have progressed some, but I've lacked a goal and a regime. I've recently rediscovered your channel (I was subscribed before when there where only 3.000 or so) and your approach still speaks to me the most.

I'm considering advancing my training in 2022 by joining your Trybe workouts. My 2022 goal is the press-to-handstand and maybe then handstand pushups.

Thanks for everything you do. ATM I'm rocking your at home workour program as I don't have time to go to the gym and the weather's shit.

Cheers,
J.

Thank you for the consistency + high quality+ just-do-the-work message because it’s just true even though people are generally impatient and look for “hacks”/shortcuts for everything. It’s actually true for learning any skill, fitness related or not.

Love all the points! I'm at an interesting crossroads right now with my rock climbing training. Climbing for about 11 years, with periodic training here and there. I got so used to (and good at) climbing with bad technique that I hit a plateau...for a long time. And now ACTUALLY working on good form/technique is allowing me to use the strength I already had but wasn't able to harness while climbing.

Happy New Year to you and your team, thanks for all your wonderful hard work. My life has changed from your videos on YouTube. I recently discovered my strength improve my techniques.

For me the most impactful is probably take more breaks on strength exercises. Like don't be afraid to take 3-4 minutes break on hard Planche/Front Lever exercises. Also superset opposite muscle group to lower the time in training for winter and maybe overall. :D

thank you for saying it loud! my personal experience is the same...constantly mastering the basics is the key for improvement. I think that the whole training journey is a kind of oscillation between mastering the basics and learning and improving the skills.

Your videos halped me get the handstand pushup last year, it's the only skill I trained for the whole year. Thank you.

Thanks Tom. I'm currently working through level 4 and 5 of the calimove program. Really enjoying the long term and steady approach. I've learnt not every workout should always go to failure which is what I was doing before!

My tip is to have fun while you train. After strong basics pick something you want to do and work the progressions. This way training is fun. It's something you wake up and look forward to do. For me i spent first year learning basics and second grinding handstand push-ups. Because that was my motivation.
