I agree with the part that it's the associations that make the name. As long as the name is semi-pronounceable, it's the associations that shape people's impression of it.

For example I never thought Bob was a cool name. It sounds like a fat little fish. But then I realized my favorite musician's name is Bob Marley, together with Marley, or together with the image of the man, the name feels different!
