My grandpa would come back from dead just to shout, "Dont take that, I'm saving that just in case!" And it's just a rusty screw.

Lost a couple buddies the last few years. It’s a ritual for the boys to hang out in the parking lot and throw some Busch Lights back at any wake. It’s how they’d want it. When my grandfather passed, we sat in his driveway and drank his homemade liquor while telling stories. It was the best way to honor a great man.

My neighbor was a retired policeman who died of a heart attack in his 50s. They had a traditional church service but that night rocked out to his favorite live band at the FOP. Everyone drank and danced their asses off. It really was a celebration of his life and what he wanted as a send off. RIP, Bill Macioci.

My Dad took me to so many garage sales where people just opened up the dead man's shop and said go through it and we'll give you a price. Daddy came home with so many treasures. The men were very respectful. It had an interesting atmosphere.

Gotta love how Midwesteners save on “a”s when they say “garage”: “grahj”. 🤗

I have been to a funeral like this in rural Ontario. Visitation for the guys was in the garage and the women/ kids were in the house. BBQ going, the wheelbarrow full of beers and ice. Way better than a funeral home.

I think every man should go out this way, with his favorite tunes in the background.

Is that a stein collection? My husband had one too. I let friends and family pick one to keep. Actually your idea has merit!

My husband died 3 yrs ago and it by myself it took me 6 months to separate trash from treasure, get rid of things, decide what I and family wanted to keep. Finally had a humongous sale. The company I hired earned a percentage of the sales and hauled leftovers away! Now 3 years later I am preparing for another sale! What I should have done 3 years ago is have an on going garage cleaning party on certain days of the week and tell people if they helped me sort at least 4 hours, they could pick out "treasures" to keep. Garage cleaning is VERY overwhelmingvfor an older widow.

Charlie, I love your humor (and down to earth wisdom). My husband would've really enjoyed hearing you. Wish I had discovered you while he was still alive.

I love your rendition of our Midwestern behavior. My favorite is the “Tupperware” Midwest style. Love this funeral idea. My Dad would have loved that.😊

People are not /allowed/ to take something. Everyone is /required/ to take stuff.

I'm sending this to my grandfather. We just talked about something like this the other day and his garage is fucking IMMACULATE! Everything labeled. Magnets on walls. Every and all tools ALL IN THEIR PROPER PLACE!!!!

We couldn't have a proper funeral for my FIL due to covid restrictions. When restrictions were lifted the memorial was held in the garage where he and his buddies would work on their race cars. Since everyone had had some time to grieve, it was much more of a "celebration of life."

As a Sconnie funeral director, i’m all for this idea. Especially posing people in the “welp i spose” position.

Great idea! Also works for a New England funeral and pretty much any rural funeral.

Visitation for my uncle was in my other uncle's barn, on his working commercial farm. He just... put the tractor, tiller, and combine out in the yard.

Former Crematory operator in Ohio.
There was a man who passed who requested a funeral at home before coming to the crematory. Specifically to have his funeral in his garage. His wife wanted him cremated with all of his woodworks. Which included a deer, a duck, and a giant block of wood shaped like Ohio.

Lol. I like watching this guy to make up for the fact that my dad died a week before I turned 12, it kinda helps me remember what it's like to have a dad!
