Making Modern Flat Panel Cabinet Doors - Woodworking

I love the simple, clean look of these doors and think they are a perfect complement to the more complex frame and panel doors I used on the upper cabinets.
While these doors and drawer fronts are considerably less complex than the frame and panel doors, getting them lined up perfectly for the correct look does take time. I spent much of a full day getting these drawer fronts installed and tweaking the fit.

Nice, I love this look. In our new house I asked the cabinet maker to do our kitchen like this and he said it would be impossible and that all cabinets had to have face frames for strength. So I built all my new shop cabinets like this and showed it too him. They came out perfectly and looked awesome. His face went completely red seeing that his customer was a better cabinet maker than he was! He then agreed to do the kitchen in frameless cabinets like these. The first cabinets he did had a 3/8" gap between drawers - unacceptable!!@!@ Finally, they came out the way I wanted them. He now advertises himself as an expert in modern frameless cabinets! BTW, the little edge band trimming tool takes a bit of practice to master, but when you do it really works great.

No fancy tools here, just wood working talent. 👍

John, the tip about lining up the handle with the edge of the drawer then measuring the remaining portion of the drawer to get the handle spacing is one that may get overlooked by most, but it is gold! I have built so many cabinets over the years, worked in cabinet shops and installed 100's of kitchens, and that one never crossed my mind. I wish I would have known it when I was still doing it for a living!

Beautiful work John! Yours just might be the only woodworking channel where I never skip a video. No CNC, no super expensive equipment, just a wealth of actual woodworking knowledge (I don't have a problem with CNC/expensive equipment, it just makes the content less relatable to me and reduced my interest in watching it btw incase your wondering. I'm definitely gonna use that tip on measuring for the handle the next time I need to mount a drawer handle. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, take care!

There’s an overwhelming sense of satisfaction in creating something beautiful with your hands. I wish everyone could experience the level of pride and accomplishment that comes from doing your best!
If I never sold another one of my pieces, I’d still continue woodworking for that feeling alone.

Great video, and I appreciate the instructions on making sure the edge banding stays. It’s a simple thing but is important.

Following your recent advice and rewatching some older content.

That looks great. It's essential that people know they won't get a result like that without putting the work in and you showed just how much work was involved which is important in our have-it-now society.

Superb practical in Plywood, I really like it. Many tricks and skill are useful for my next DIY project. Cheer up from Thailand. 👍

you should do an MTV cribs style walk through of all the stuff you made in your house. That would be an awesome video

You had me going there...had to do a double take and check the calendar....no it’s not Sunday. But all of the sudden it feels like it’s Sunday! Why?! Because I’m treated to a new John Heisz Ibuildit video in my queue! What a life! Thanks for sharing your methods for making plywood drawer fronts. They look amazing!

Looks great. A handle on that faux drawer might look good too.

What a clean, well done kitchen that you'll enjoy for many years. The design is pretty much timeless and will age well.

This is what I had in mind too. I would love solid wood drawer fronts. I also love having food on the table and spending time with my wife. I wouldn’t want to compromise those things, especially the first by spending arms and legs in soildwood. Great video.
