Myth Over Mind: A Menacing Message!

Today's episode is a quick reaction to Michael Pearl of "The Door" youtube channel. It seems to be Michael is using a bad hypothetical to drive the point home that believing on evidence is not true conversion. I think this is a very dangerous concept. Let me explain why.

I'm old enough to have seen 1000s of atheist based videos and I have to say your work is top tier if not the best I've seen. No silly camera stuff just you and your guts in front of the camera. I thank you for sharing your work.

There's nothing more dangerous to the shepherd's salary than a flock that thinks. Thinking is often vilified because they need a secure fold of sheep.

Martin Luther had it right when he said; "reason is the enemy of faith"

Watching these videos feels like seeing an early Matt Dillahunty. Not in style, but in importance. You have the thoughtfulness and thoroughness to become a major voice in the atheist movement, and I'm glad to be along for the ride this early.

Well said! When I was a Christian I got so sick of them expecting me to leave my brain at the door and just believe everything they said without proof. When I was young I used to drive my pastor crazy because I was always asking questions. 😀

Friend of mine raised Southern Baptist said that in his community “scientific evidence” was rejected because belief should be based on faith. Looking to evidence meant you lacked faith, therefore it was discouraged.

The other day when I was expressing to my mom how those "name it and claim it" prosperity gospel preachers are spewing false teachings that are not even biblical. She said, "you've got to read the scriptures." I've read the entire Bible. Most of the Bible is filled with mythology, historically inaccurate stories, and gospel accounts that cannot be verified. Anyways, I cannot tell her that, or to any other garden variety Evangelical. She told me I was being judgmental and that my doubts are not pleasing to God, I retorted "So, I should be made to believe something based on insufficient evidence"?

The problem with things like Noah’s ark isn’t that it couldn’t have happened (that’s what miracles are for), it’s that we have definitive proof through various fields of study that it Didn’t happen.

You and MagicSkeptic are absolutely killing it, so happy to have found nonhostile atheists that genuinely want to discuss this, thank you!

Ie: The more gullible you are, the more you blindly follow this preacher, the better Christian you are. Appealing to their ego and reinforcing the “us vs. them” attitude. You have quickly become my favorite atheist channel and I’m excited to watch how fast your channel continues to grow.

Remarkable. This is more than the usual "thou shalt not question", it almost reaches the point of claiming that being wrong is virtuous.

Michael Pearl has always been a scary guy. He & his wife wrote a book about “Biblical discipline” that has been linked to several child deaths, and their marriage advice book is horrifying also. Though I’ve not heard it connected to any deaths, it surely kept many women in abusive situations with its “husband always right bc God” philosophy.

This analysis is why I know your channel will be successful. You're not reacting to low hanging fruit, but a much deeper conversation of problematic thinking.

Mister, you're becoming one of my favourite creators on this platform. Your calm style in an area that is so prone to combativeness and bitterness is very nice.

Growing up In Christian school I would hear this when the shroud of Turin topic arose. "It's proof but you shouldn't require it."

Michael Pearl should be tried and convicted of child abuse, locked up UNDER the prison, and forgotten. Horrible, horrible "human" being.

Reminds me of a "how to evangelize" video I saw which explicitly instructed evangelizers to avoid people who looked like they could pose hard questions. Instead they were to look for people who looked like they had problems, who would be more receptive. So, Instead of filling churches with people of the intellectual caliber of C. S. Lewis, we are going to fill them with people who have seemingly insurmountable problems that the church is not equipped to deal with? People who would be satisfied with very little as long as they did not ask too much of the church or of God. People who are not problem-solvers, people who do not have the power to help others overcome problems, like cutting through red tape, people who do not have know-how. I've known Christians who repeatedly asked their church family for help in preventing them from losing their home; they lost it anyway because nobody stepped forward who knew how to deal with banks and mortgages and foreclosures. I could tell other stories where someone had a need which could not be met by anyone in their church even though they asked for prayer week after week, month after month. Many times that person eventually dropped out of sight.

His point is that he wants believers who don't value evidence. Faith is everything. He wants folks who believe just because.
