Shout out to Khans right-hand man. He really did a great job in this flick.

I love how the space battles in this film are like street fights. There's no graceful soaring through CGI fire. No millions of exploding ships in the background. Just two ships of roughly equal ability beating the absolute shit out of each other as they each fall apart around their crews like old pirate ships duking it out. Trek really only ever did that again in some of the later episodes of DS9

I was 9 years old when I first saw this and even then I knew it was one of the greatest things ever.

I've seen this film dozens and dozens of times. Far more than any other movie. It's shocking to see it in 4k at 48fps. It's shocking how fake everything looks! I think the future is going to make us wish that all of thee blemishes were still hidden by the low definition of our old ways. It still looks better than CGI crap, however. OMG, if they ever do this with Babylon 5, can you imagine how it'll look?

What was that glass dome they hit on Khans ship? As a kid i thought it was the bridge but you clearly see the bridge dome in front of it

This would be perfect if it wasn't so desaturated... was this intentional, and if so why? Or was this just a result of the interpolation process?
Not an expert on video processing at all, but as a fan of the movie I can say that in the original, the Condition Red illumination makes the bridge - very fittingly - look like the literal pits of hell. Here it's lit like a chill, sexy cocktail lounge...

-I wonder if using that 70mm print w/o the "II" would make a nice transfer to UHD?

I don't like the way this looks. Looks like it was recorded on videotape instead of film.

Personally I don't care for the upscaled rendering of things. It makes it look like how soap operas are filmed. It looks weird. I appreciate the effort that goes into it but just because we CAN do a thing, it doesn't mean we MUST do a thing. Newer isn't always better. DVD or Bluray is fine.
Just my opinion.
