Hi guys, please listen to the fight described time-stamped at 4:39; I am African-American and I do appreciate your depiction of Oakland. Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees became my neighbors, friends and classmates. I lost a lot of friends through the years in Oakland, including my middle brother to gun violence. The fight described by Andy is so typical of youth who live on an impoverished block. Those types of fights were not deadly...it was how young boys settle a score, then grow up to become men.

@jlinh I used to watch your makeup videos before life caught up with me—yeeears ago... lol now with the pandemic and me having COVID-19 self isolating, I have the opportunity to watch your channel again! Except now, you & Andy have vlogs together!
Being from the bay myself, I’d have to say you guys should both be proud of where you both have gone so far in life. Y’all deserve to brag if you want! You earned it yourselves, thank you for being an inspiration! Growing up in the bay isn’t always hyphy, I recall you, Jlinh, sharing a dark & personal situation you dealt with living in one of the Oakland houses, thank you for sharing that small bit. You’re one of the influencers who’s kept shit real & raw ! I wish you two the best! I know I’m late, but congratulations on your engagement. Stay safe y’all!💖

Aww, I loved learning that you are Mien! One of my really good college friends is also Mien and I learned that there is a decent-sized Mien population in Sac.

Love you guys sharing about Oakland. You can grow up with a lot of trauma and still love the place that raised you. Life is complicated.

Wow, I also grew up on International Blvd and 25th Ave too! Right by the Dollar Tree, McDonalds, Jack and the Box, and El Polo Pollo. I remember walking to the bus stop everyday in elementary school and middle school and see women who would just stand outside in the cold morning. I've always wondered what they were doing, and I connected the dots later when I learned about prostitutes. I'm a college student in Davis now and being here is so different from the Bay Area. I'm super glad to hear from people like you who came from similar backgrounds as me.

I was fortunate enough to grow up in both Richmond (same roughness as Oakland) and the surbs of Vallejo so I got to see both ends of the spectrum. I also got to experience both private school and public school which I think in itself had given me a fair perspective of both sides.

I was born in Alameda and although I didn't grow up in Oakland, I've spent many holidays with family in the bay area. It's always so interesting to me to listen to people's stories of growing up in my birth place/area. You are both very humble and its a big part of who you are as creators. Keep it comin!

Thank you guys for sharing your story, it is fascinating how you guys were able to succeed and move away from this period of your life. You both should be proud of yourself of how far you have made it together. I grew up in the Dominican Republic, it is was a blessed time living there, but it was dangerous I got robbed gun down twice, and ever since then I am scare for life. Love being there only in the Tourist environments even though is my native land. I am so looking forward for more of your blogs this is amazing, keep it up.

I grew up in Harlem during the crack epidemic, so I completely get where you guys are coming from. I loved my neighborhood even though it was rough. Gun shots all day long, my house had been broken into and just dealing with the transitions of being in a predominantly Black and Spanish neighborhood and going to an almost all white school. You guys are super relatable, hope to see more of this soon.

This was so interesting to see and relatable as well since I also live in Oakland. I've moved from South San Francisco to hayward, to the central valley, to Mexico, and then to Oakland so it's kinda hard to just label one city as the place I grew up but at this point Oakland is the place i've lived at the longest and I can 100% relate to everything you said. Its rough out here most days but its getting better slowly but surely. I live how diverse it is from the people, to the food and we have everything at our finger tips if you really think about it. Living here has definitely pushed me to do better and be greater and ya'll are proof of that being possible. True inspirations ❤️

So Ive been binging your YouTube videos today. This one was especially good. It's nice to hear your backgrounds and experiences in Oakland. I lived there for a time too. It's a wonderful town, but it can be tough. I saw robberies at gunpoint, heard gunshots every single day as well. So many great things about Oakland too! The diversity is unmatched, the food is incredible (taco trucks), and Lake Merritt. I appreciate your love for The Town. Great video :)

yay! i’m here for this new channel! I grew up in the Bay Area as well, but I’ve lived in the burbs my whole upbringing so I had pretty safe experiences. My dad was a real estate agent so when the market crashed in 2008 we lost everything he worked for. so that was a turning point in my childhood. seeing my parents go from financially abundant to financially insufficient was hard. I went from always having something to eat, to going to school hungry EVERYDAY up until I was 16 and finally started making my own bread. whew! I’m so grateful for food til this day lol!
