REALISM|JOHN MEARSHEIMER'S THEORY, Foreign Policy & International Relations
Показать описание
John Joseph Mearsheimer is an American political scientist and international relations scholar, who belongs to the realist school of thought. He is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. John Joseph Mearsheimer has been described as the most influential realist of his generation. John Mearsheimer has been described as an "offensive realist" and more so a structural realist. Offensive realism holds that there is a need for security, and ultimately for survival, make states aggressive power maximizers. States do not cooperate, except during temporary alliances, but constantly seek to diminish their competitors' power and to enhance their own. John Mearsheimer's offensive neorealism intends to fix the "status quo bias" of Kenneth Waltz's defensive neorealism.
Neorealism or structural realism is a theory of international relations that emphasizes the role of power politics in international relations, sees competition and conflict as enduring features, and sees limited potential for cooperation.
