FOREIGN POLICY
A state's foreign policy or external policy is its objectives and activities in relation to its interactions with other states, unions, and other political entities, whether bilaterally or through multilateral platforms.

The four main objectives of U.S. foreign policy are the protection of the United States and its citizens and allies, the assurance of continuing access to international resources and markets, the preservation of a balance of power in the world, and the protection of human rights and democracy. Security, prosperity, and the creation of a better world are the three most prominent goals of American foreign policy. During the 1990s, American foreign policy focused on consolidating its success.

Hearing others describe what the Professor just described it comes off wicked, gross, despicable. His description puts the rationality, the it must be done perspective to US history.

To sum up

The United states of America is a country that was built by slave labour.
After WW2 the US Helped set up new world order in which standards and rules
were formulated to help Govern the world, However the United States continued
to wage war on countries it perceived as threats to liberal democracy.
It come to my surprise that what do the following countries have in common

(1) IRAN (2) Venezuela (3) Russia, all these three countries are highly sanctioned by
Washington, the question is why ?, if you pose this question to anybody from the west
You will be told these countries are violate Human rights and they are undemocratic .
But this is just one answer, the second most important answer is that these countries are major oil
producers and they have denied US companies access to their oil fields.

For The US to continue its hegemony, it must control the supply of oil, while ensuring transaction of oil is done in petrol dollar scheme, therefore forcing other countries to sale whatever assets they have in order
to purchase oil. This scheme makes the US dollar the most important USA export to the world, ensuring the US control of the world economy by exporting inflation to other countries.

The US dollar has also been used as a weapon to punish countries that disobey the US in matters of trade, politics and economics.

Countries are now looking for alternative to the dollar, this make the US nervous, ready to engage in war with countries that disobey status quo.

Fan of John Mearsheimer, call myself largely a realist on FP issues ... but he leaves so much out that it hurts his argument. The drive into the West was from various factors and many were much more weighted than attempts at becoming a 'hegemon'. The rationale on the early American decisions is way too simplistic and doesn't fit with those made in the late 19th century and definitely not into the 20th. His argument can be argued on recent history, but taking it back into the first half century or so is not linear as he describes. Many of the factors he describes are basic preservation instincts all nations flow with, heck even tribal societies.
