What temperature should I set my thermostat?

Hi friends! This is a question we get asked all the time especially in extreme weather: at what temperature should I set my thermostat? Today we answer this question and give you some tips on how to have the most efficiency and comfort from your heating and air conditioning system. It mostly depends on how extreme the weather is outside. If the temperatures are very cold outside, we recommend not making major changes in temperature unless you are going to be gone for a longer amount of time such as a weekend or more. We also recommend a wifi thermostat to keep track of your home's temperature while you are gone.

So many people set it to 68 and I’m starting to wonder if there is something wrong with me because that is waaayy too cold for me. I generally have it between 72 to 75 depending on the time of day

I am better off that during the winter season I’ll set my Central heat on at 67 degrees F too 70 degrees in New Jersey even though the winter in New Jersey is incredibly cold like we’re talking about 20-5 degrees outside and my heat will keep it at 67-70 degrees Fahrenheit. During the spring I’ll just turn on my fan instead of turning on my Central AC and save money on my electric but in the summer during a hot and humid muggy weather I’ll set the AC at 75-77 degrees now if I have a family then I’ll change those temperatures during summer will be 72 degrees and winter 70 degrees Fahrenheit only.

I left the east coast for the west coast (Bay Area). Visiting all those years at my mother-in-laws house she kept it 65 during Christmas time and I was freezing at night! My partner is doing the same thing in our new house and that's a problem because I don't want to wear a jacket in my own home. I don't find forced air heat more efficient. Base board heat lasts but with the humid cold out here it takes over in a heartbeat. Also, I questioned the zones in our new house because the lower level is the coldest for obvious reasons but when it gets to a good temperature the main floor is too hot. It's configured to blow 20% of heat on the main floor when the lower floor blows air. So I was told I basically have to heat the house the from lower floor zone. Sounds crazy to me. There's a 5-7 degree difference from the main floor the lower level. The other crazy thing is that I have to keep all of the doors open downstairs to distribute the heat. What ends up happening is that each bedroom then gets too hot with the door closed. The developer put the thermostat in the coldest area of the floor. Right now the thermostat reads 62 but my office reads 74 with the door closed!

My house gets colder the colder outside (20C inside 5C outside I'm warm, 20C inside 0C outside I'm cold), even though my thermostat stays the same. How does that work?

The average temperature in apartments in winter: Italy - 17 degrees, Germany - 17 degrees, France - 17 degrees, the Netherlands - 16 degrees, Great Britain - 15 degrees, Japan - 10 degrees.

The Russians are shocked by these figures. According to Russian sanitary standards, the temperature in the apartment should be at least 18-20 degrees Celsius. According to Russian legislation, for each hour of deviation in air temperature in a residential building (in total for the billing period), the monthly fee is reduced by 0.15% of the fee determined based on the readings of metering devices for each degree of temperature deviation. Thus, at a temperature of + 17 ° C, payment per month should be reduced by about 87%, and at + 16 ° C, payment is not required at all. If in Russia they used to heat the same way as in Holland, Great Britain and Japan, then the Russians would not have to pay for heating.

In the above countries, the temperature does not meet sanitary standards!

70 is not on the cool side. Funny when I'm home it's 66/67. At the camp its 80 or more with the wood stove
