Racism In Banking Is Still A Huge Problem

Bank tellers are routinely denying service to black customers. The tellers will refuse to cash checks for the customer because they are suspicious that a black person wouldn't be able to get a check for that kind of money. What's worse is that they will send emails out to other branches warning other bank employees that a black person is trying to cash a check and to use caution.

I want to move to some of the other things that you explored which included you having a lot of like jarring large sales scale statistics that you provide. But also you found documentation about some small interactions even just when you go down to like the bank teller making a judgment call on what checks can get cashed and what checks don't get cashed. Can you talk a bit about that? Sure so this happens in the news frequently. It's kind of a steady stream of stories that are coming out where a black customer goes to a bank wants to cash a check wants to make a withdrawal and all of a sudden things go south. the tellers don't believe that that person has the money or has been given a check with that value so they call the cops or they send the person away. I write about instances where this occurred at Wells Fargo. It kind of doesn't matter what the bank is. but because they all have this problem where the tellers immediately racially profile people who walk in the door. I was talking about these emails that I got that show JPMorgan Chase teller's assessing customers who walk in the door and warning each other about customers they think are suspicious. In itself, this is not a strange thing to do. Because there are people out there who try to scam banks with all kinds of different methods. for instance, I saw an email where one teller was warning a network of tellers at nearby branches that somebody had tried to use a card bank card to make a withdrawal that was already reported stolen. And the IDS didn't match it was just really clear that it wasn't the bank customer. but then I saw emails that didn't really describe anything bad. they just described Black customers. I saw an email which is in the book in which a young man with blonde dreadlocks comes in with a check that he wants to cash and the teller doesn't believe that he is the rightful recipient of the check. He's I I'm not sure if I just mentioned this but he's black he has blonde dreads and that's all they used to describe him.

I work for an insurance company. We sometimes issue checks to members when a provider is out of network. We get the most calls from black members saying the bank won't cash the check. Or the black member has to jump though hoops to prove its legit.

Santander bank admitted to redlining practices in 2017 in Rhode Island. It's real.

You don't say?! I'm shocked! As a black guy I've been going around thinking it was the color of the shirt I wore. I've been having anxiety at department stores worrying about what colored shirt I should buy so I'd get respect from suburban white folks. Now you're telling me it's my skin color??? Holy shit. Mind blown...

I live in MI, i went to a credit union (LMCU) with my wife and her parents as we needed some paperwork signed in 2021. We all had to give our ID. My wife and I had current and correct ID. My in-laws had at least one discrepancy each on their ID’s. The notary either didn’t notice or ignored their discrepancies, didn’t question my wife’s ID, but the one black person in the group (me) was told to remove my face mask during Covid at a time when they were requiring face masks in the bank so that she could confirm my identity. But everyone else… mad af.

I had to withdraw $20, 000 and the manager asked me what did I need it for. I withdrew all my money and closed my account. The racial hatred is real

I get this all the time! As a business owner and a home investor, we teach our young entrepreneurs to ignore this cause they want to call the cops when you get irritated. Been told my verified bank 🏦 was not mine!lol

How about interview the tellers and ask them why they are doing this?

Bank tellers are generally the front line, lowest rung employees of the banks. They are often very poorly trained, maybe a day or two of training at most banks. Qualifications may be low, obviously depends on the individual, but many banks just require you to be able to do basic math and count money fast. Pay is very poor. It doesn't surprise me that there's a problem with racism, given lack of qualifications and training.

Meanwhile in Canada we just cash cheques in our banking app

This is why I’ve slowly shifted to a Credit Union. If you live in NJ/NY i can vouch for Affinity FCU. I think they do a decent job and ive never felt targeted based on race. ( plus the rates with Credit Unions are just better, even the savings accounts makes a national bank obsolete)

(0:34) I disagree the news is more interested in what bleeds or a natural disaster.🤔
As the old saying goes "if it bleeds it leads."

I am not sure where the problem is, but is it possible that you haven't any money in the bank ? i mean some people could think that banks give free money to everyone

The people who only care about money are actively trying to make less money. That makes perfect sense!

Are the liberal bank tellers doing this too?

The Democrats solution to this pesky little issue is to unleash 87 000 new IRS agents onto them so we can ensure poor people are even poorer.
