I was in Bulgaria when the unpronounceable volcano misbehaved. I had a 50 hour coach journey home. That was not long enough to learn to pronounce it.

I studied Icelandic for a year in uni and the two practical takeaways I got from it are singing along to Sigur Rós and actually being able to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull.

As a German-Speaker this definitely reminds me of that 😂 I don't remember what the word is, but my dad keeps annoying us with getting us to learn one. It's like a specific part for automating those windscreen wiper things. Something something Scheibenwischerautomations something something 😅 language is beautiful.

I think Icelandic is far harder to pronounce though. Like *_way_* harder.

I'm German and was in elementary school when that volcano erupted. Being able to say the word (definitely not like an Icelandic speaker, but well enough not to get a knot in my tongue) was a source of great pride.

Same in German. We actually have a game for long road trips or such where you have to create the longest word

Dutch and German do the same. Not so sure about Danish, Swedish and Norwegian, but I believe these compound words are a feature of the Germanic languages that was abandoned in English
