Mazda CX-60 review: Better than the Germans?!

This is the Mazda CX-60!

It’s the latest SUV to come from the Japanese manufacturer and currently sits as the largest vehicle Mazda offers in the UK.

Starting with the design, this SUV is striking - with sharp LED headlights, alloy wheels up to 20-inches in size and a tidy rear end. Prepare to experience a little fakery on the bodywork, though…

The CX-60’s quality shines through inside too. You can have it with classy white leather on top-spec models, and some impressive technology on-board.

There’s the question of practicality though, as well as what’s it like to drive. Plus should you go with a hybrid, or one of the rare big diesels? Stick with Mat to find the answers to these, and to see if the Mazda CX-60 is worth the price tag!

Matt comparing the noise levels and suspension to luxury cars speaks levels about how upmarket Mazda has moved with their new CX-60. I think these will sell very well for those looking for a more luxurious CX-5, similar to the Lexus NX and Rav4

This car looked cooler than photos😊

Worked for Avis 2 years, got to see very nicely specced PHEV versions of the CX60. Great car (awesome cold start up sound I'm still impressed), got cool GLE-GLS vibes cuz it's quite big and imposing, pulls for the weight, nice interior. I loved it!

Love to see where Mazda is heading. Especially with the 6 cylinders.

Hello. I've just popped in to say that I've had my Mazda cx60 for nearly two weeks. I opted for the Homura, all the packages PHEV in the deep blue. I LOVE it. I do plug it in every night to domestic AC 3-pin (external, Plug in vehicle compliant) and have achieved 200 mpg and 39 miles on a full battery. My last car was a Volvo XC60 R design diesel - so similar in size. Things I've noticed: the 20 inch tyres are more forgiving than I had expected given the various reviews of the car. Mine has had all the recall items fitted/adjusted and I find the ride firm without the 'fidget' described. Road noise is more than acceptable compared to my Volvo and it corners as if on rails - again, compared to my AWD Volvo on 19" wheels - which inspires confidence and minimises body roll. I'm still 'learning' the car and am enjoying it immensely. I looked at other PHEVs as Matt suggested: The French equivalent was more expensive and its style will date easily. The Germans - well, £15k more for similar size but much lower spec. The Honda CRV was similar as was the Toyota RAV - but I just didn't like their 'loud' interiors. The Mazda oozes quality and has quiet interior styling. Perfect

Matt had a pre-change model to test. Mazda is soundproofing the doors differently and there is no longer a strange sound when closing. The same applies to suspension work.
As for acceleration: strange, but the CX60 has the best acceleration time in off-road mode.

I got mine last year. There are some minor issues which you have mentioned. Some, like the metallic sound of the doors, have been fixed. I‘m very satisfied with it ❤

Just watched the review and I’m completely blown away by the sophistication and elegance Mazda has instilled in the new CX-60 🤩! From the refined cabin to the sleek exterior, it seems to tick all the boxes. It's refreshing to see Mazda stepping up their game and giving the luxury brands a run for their money. What do you all think, can it truly rival the Germans, especially with its compelling price point? Also, who else is intrigued by the 6 cylinders? 🔥

I love my new PHEV CX-60, I get a lot of comments from friends and family as to why I "downgraded" from an X5 to a Mazda, but hey no complaints here. Might not have that luxury badge but I know it's gonna run when I need it to.

Mat, I tried to spec' up a Q5 like my full bells-and-whistles Takumi PHEV, but blew past the 90KEUR mark with plenty of boxes left to check- price/kit/performance-wise I couldn't be happier or found better ( no regrets, but I do miss my little red Sandero III, fully specced and bi-fuel, but I got an excellent trade-in!).

The tinny doors have been rectified on the 2023 models, and 2022 models can get the added door suppression free of charge, they sound like they should after the work....all in all the car and for the money will outdo most German equivalent, and not forgetting..it is a Mazda, and will never let you down, unlike some German offerings....great review....

I have been always a huge fan of Mazda and their design wise especially, so glad and thankful that they still produce cars such as this and some others, thank you Mat for your honest review.

Good to see Mazda letting you review their cars again after comparing the Mazda3 to a dog doing its business.

Finally a Mazda.
I don't know why they don't give enough space to Japanese brands such as Mazda.

What took you so long? I bought one 7 weeks ago and now you finally review it! Love the car and if you put it in Off Road mode it will do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds! Homura with black accents and alloys looks better. Stunning car for the money.

Recently saw one of these in white. Stunning looking car and that cabin is gorgeous. Would take this or the Lexus NX any day over a German equivalent.
