Mazda Has Mostly Fixed The CX-60 (Suspension Change & Transmission Update 2024 Review)

Detailed review of the suspension and transmission changes made to the 2024 Mazda CX-60 in response to criticism from media and owners.

Mazda has acknowledged that the ride quality, body control and transmission shift quality of the CX-60 luxury SUV wasn't right from launch.

We had one as a long-termer and came to those findings:

Now, the CX-60 has a new rear shock absorber and new transmission software. We try out one of the first cars in Australia to be updated.

Since October 1, 2023, cars have been built this way from the factory, while CX-60 units built before that date are eligible for a free upgrade conducted at a Mazda dealership.

The verdict: the transmission is fixed (at least on this diesel tester) and the ride quality and body control is 40-50% better.

The fact that MAZDA have actively responded to concerns is a credit to them. I fail to understand how such a vehicle passed trials in Australian conditions. The issues would surely have made themselves obvious in any test here. This is a big investment for MAZDA needing this vehicle to be successful, and one does expect some teething problems in any new model but this seemed to slip through the testing. well done on your reports on this vehicle. I would like to see this vehicle and the Series become a real success as it has so much potential.

We all make mistakes even if you a Giant company. Shout out to Madza for updating their faults and making them free off charge to existing cars. That's what I call "keeping your customers and reputation"

Kudos for Mazda. This is what I call a premium product and premium manufacturer, because they intend to make their product better, and they listen to the criticism.

Kudos to chasing cars for telling it as it is. No sugar coating, none of that bs marketing. Thank you!

Props need to be given to Mazda on this. Good on them for actually coming out, acknowledging the issues, and at least providing a "suitable" fix to resolve the issue.

This is why good journalism is a must from independent outlets, because it can cause things like this to actually happen.

Good job guys!

Thanks Tom Baker for honest reporting without fear nor favour. As an owner of a CX60 Straight 6 Azami I’m looking forward to the suspension upgrade. I had a safety recall on the steering and had the transmission upgrade and agree it’s almost a new car…once the suspension is fixed it is going to be a great car for the money.

Thank you for this update!!! VERY helpful. I think this car is so much better looking on the outside as well on the inside compared to the rivals - these improvements from Mazda just seals the deal for me... Put this next to an X3 or an RX and its actually laughable how much beefier and larger and better looking this car is!!

I've got a cx60 and I agree with this. I would class it more of a sports suv as I have the phev version which goes quick for something this size.

How can you compare a VW Touareg with air suspension or BMW X3with adaptive suspension and say they are better? Of course they are as the CX60 is just a basic suspension. You need to compare apples to apples. Having driven a Q5 sline the Mazda is a better suspension. Bear in mind, it has 20inch alloys, so most cars with that size of wheel have issues.

So Mazda has put the Koni Special Active Suspension in the Mazda CX-60. That´s a very good Sign for them. They take care of their Customers. Chase Cars are my favorites. Very good Reviews.

Interested in your thoughts on the PHEV after the changes.
As a p50e evolve owner I am irritated with the power delivery/transmission weirdness.
Crap suspension isn’t even as annoying as the sticky steering that makes it dodgy to drive on the highway.
Then again, I got the evolve just for the 18” wheels to help offset the crap suspension 😂

I test-drove the diesel version of this car yesterday. The power, interior design, and exterior appearance are impressive. It felt great driving on flat roads. However, the road noise was quite loud when driving over coarse chip at speed. It's not a quiet highway cruiser; instead, it's loud and boomy. The suspension feels cheap and doesn't effectively absorb bumps or road imperfections. Additionally, there was a small rattle in the dashboard. Overall, I would not recommend this car yet, but I'd like to one day, after Mazda do the engineering properly, and address the asking price. Its unresolved.

I had the suspension upgrade done recently on my late 2023 diesel CX60 and it made a noticeable difference in the ride quality. Thank you, Mazda, for addressing the issue. The drive still feels sporty, but it can now also absorb unevenness on the roads like a luxury SUV should!

Hey Tom, I have a petrol CX60. My local dealer confirmed my car is eligible for the suspension work but were unaware of the transmission fix. I called Mazda Australia today to enquire when the transmission fix would be available. The person I spoke to at Mazda Australia did not know anything about the transmission update at all! Did your contacts at Mazda advise when the transmission fix would be available to owners? Great work on this issue by the way - Thank-you

You guys and savagegeese were the two media outlets I’ve heard of that both noticed issues with the suspension and transmission timing of the new large mazda cuvs, the CX-90 in the case of savagegeese.
