Human Greed May Have Permanently Deformed This Pup

Winnie has been so wronged and so failed by humans that he may be permanently deformed because of them.

Alone and starving on the streets, Winnie mental and physical state deteriorated by the day. Food was never a given. Neither was shelter. And because he was without so much in his developing years - he's only seven months old - his legs deformed and bowed outward. Someone seeing economic opportunity in Winnie, relocated him to her backyard and proceeded to raise money for his “treatment”. However, while she collected funds on his behalf, Winnie received no aid at all, not even better nutrition. As a result, his back legs started to deteriorate as well and he lost all his hair. For over TWO months, Winnie was confined on a short chain in this woman's yard, living in filth and next to his feces. He was worse off than the streets. He developed ulcers on his legs from lack of movement and was eaten alive by ticks and rodents.

When rescuers at GWARP learned of Winnie and showed up at the residence to save him, the woman refused to give him up, delaying his treatment even further. But rescuers didn't give up. They came back, day after day until the woman finally agreed to surrender him over. Now, Winnie is about seven months old. Sadly, great damage has already been done by someone's greed. The most heartbreaking part is the hospital advised rescuers that had Winnie been helped from the start, he would be a perfectly well dog today. Winnie is now hospitalized and will be for some time. His front legs may never straighten out. In either case, he needs antibiotics, formulated nutrition, and intensive IV fluid treatment with nutrients and vitamins, just to keep him alive.
