For people curious about more real world figures. 2007 model, 40, 000 miles:

Long (100 mile plus) motorway run - 42mpg is possible. Definitely should be able to get 39 or 40 on any 250. If you are not achieving high 30s something about the way you are passing cars is too aggressive or there is a possible problem.

Town - 20-26mpg in stop start high traffic

Mixed - You will achieve something in-between the above figures depending on exact conditions, temperature and style of driving.

The key to good long distance economy is judicious use of cruise control. Set it at 65-70mph. Do not allow the car to accelerate for you once the radar has dropped your speed. It just takes off and kills economy. Turn it off and accelerate yourself then reset cruise control. Not absolutely necessary of course, only if you care about hyper miling and want to hit the best figures achievable.

Around town this car is very very sensitive to driving style and traffic density. They are two huge factors and it's why you see so many people with different views on the car drinking fuel or being surprisingly economical. All cars are like this but this isn't one of those cars where the disparity is small, it's very sensitive. If you want economy you have to drive for economy. If you don't then you will be on the pessimistic end of real world figures. You always have to consider that it is a 2.5 V6 petrol hooked up to a torque converter, lexus did a brilliant job on the economy for this but you are still working within those parameters!

Last thing: the computer is known to be 1 or 2mpg optimistic so take that into account in people's figures. On the plus side Lexus's performance figures are a tad pessimistic if you set the car right for acceleration.

The IS250 underreports the consumption. I had one of these cars and the trip computer always said about 0.6-0.7L/100km less than the real numbers calculated at the petrol station. With really defensive driving and 110 max speed, i managed 6.2L/100km on the trip computer, but it was 6.75 after calculation at the petrol station. This was almost consistent over 22k km of my ownership.

Take the information on the trip computer with a grain of salt, because 7.4L at 150 seems highly optimistic to me, because thats about the real figure i get at on motorway routes where max 130 is allowed. (in the summer that is)
and since you get 6.8L at 130, i think the underreporting of about 0.6-0.7 sounds about right. Ergo real figure for 150 should be about 8.1-8.2L/100km.

I love the videos. But I don't know where to get 100 octane gas.

Big difference between steady state and real world economy. Every time you use the brake pedal, the vehicle's momentum is turned into waste heat. Meanwhile, when you are accelerating, you are probably briefly consuming fuel at more than 30 l/100 km.

On the highway, never exceeding 120 kn/hrs in light traffic, I can average between 7.3 and 8.0 l/100 km over several hours, including acceleration from stop to highway speed (IS 250 automatic AWD).

My long term average (mix of city and highway) is about 9.5 l/100 km.

My 2007 is250 is giving me 11L/100km, and I am always using the freeway at 100-120 kph.

But what is about engine reliability? And automatic gearbox? Is good or not? Btw really nice car!

It's actually doing 35mpg at 80mph on a 2.5 v6? looking at buying one now

But if you put on manual you can put it in the 6th gear. On auto it stais on 5th gear.
How is consumption with 120kph?

You make nice videos. I have also Corolla E12 and planning to upgrade IS250, but little bit worried about fuel consumption. In Finland car test newspaper got these figures: 80kmh=7.0l/100km, 100kmh=7.6l/100km, 120kmh=9, 1l/100km. I think I have to test one car in my work route to find out real numbers. Most of it is 120kmh in summer and 100kmh in winter.

On my trip to Spain lowest was 5.8 on cruise control 32 degrees Celsius 120 km/u 95 octane petrol

The one thing I don't like about this car is that it shifts to 1st gear if I slow down below 5mph. If I'm going over a major speed bump or sometimes crawling around a corner it goes down. Is this normal because if it shifts down to 1st from 2nd I immediately want to go while it's still rolling then it's an ugly upshift

My 2007 IS 250 on a highway mostly driving 100-110 kph range consumes 8~ liters / 100km. That's including once in a while overtaking, slowing down while going through villages. Overall avarage is 8.6 (what my computer says). In city it drinks quite a lot. Especially in winter :)
These figures Vucko is getting are great - I've never achieved something like that. Smallest I've had is 6.5 while driving 80-90 kph range for many kilometers without ever overtaking.
Could turning off the AC cause the dramatically lower consumption? I've never turned it off. I'm filling it up with 98 petrol.

I drive is250 for an year, tested it couples of times at 81mph on the highway - it gives me around 32mpg (us) The car is very sensitive on driving style, if you start to trash it and rev it to overtake other cars, the fuel economy quickly goes away.

We usually get 31mpg and it's a 2010 is250 AWD. Have the video to prove it too!
