TAP to Exit at Downtown Santa Monica Station starts Sept. 3

TAP to Exit is coming to Downtown Santa Monica Station. Beginning on September 3, riders must tap to enter and exit the station.

Requiring proof of valid fare upon exit is part of our ongoing public safety efforts.

➡️ After implementing TAP to Exit at our North Hollywood Station in May, we have seen a 40% drop in reports of crime and disturbances via the Transit Watch app across all B Line stations.

Controlling access to the systems helps ensure that people are using the system for their transportation needs.

This is just one of the ways that we are working to improve safety on the system.

In addition, we are also:

✅️ deploying more security officers across the system

✅️ working with our contracted law enforcement partners to increase the visibility of uniformed law enforcement officers

✅️ upgrading cameras and lighting at our stations

I'm surprised this hasn't been done to begin with. Tapping in and tapping out is the norm in Japan.

Not to mention you may say it’s only 1.75 and you’re right it’s only 1.75 for you but it’s millions for metro. And yeah it’s only 1.75 so just pay people!

Sorry but paying 20+ ppl a day 10+/hr to make sure they pay 1.75 is useless especially since the cops do nothing when crime is commited. Ive had over 100k stolen on mta property and they will do nothing about it.
