just built one myself, again the aerial was the issue, should not have been shorted to ground/0v at one end, instead left it as a whip and the radio was fine, also the white board connectors were a bit poor and the radio circuit did not get its power until a few wires got redone . Great idea, let down by a design flaw and dodgy connections, also some other minor changes could be made to improve things .
