How to install Intel Optane Memory, easy guide

Using the GIGABYTE Z270X Gaming 9, I go step by step how to install Intel Optane memory. It was a tricky process to get right while I was trying to work it out but with these steps, it should be child's play. Some of the steps may not be necessary but considering how little time it takes to do it, I left it in (like GPT mode conversion for example).

Here is some additional reference material

....After DAYS and HOURS, this has finialy worked for me. Thank you so much I had tried literally everything I could think of. Intel has literally 200 things called optane and its more or less up to the user to figure out which one is right. And then it will still error out. No wonder they're pulling support. It's such a great product, I absolutely love it, I cant imagine too many people put up with this entire process. It fights you the entire way. Thank you again.

Man, after a couple of days trying every single thing with no success, your help was much welcome; Installing optane in a Dell inspiron laptop in 2019 is way harder than it should be, with very little/no documentation at all.. to make things even worst, none of the options to enable/disable in BIOS that people mention can be found, making the whole process a huge pain in the S. Thnaks so much for this tutorial!

guys if you had reinstall os without disabling optane. or run into any other probs where you had to reinstall the os, then you need to do this

1. Open your UEFI BIOS Utility.
2. Switch to "Advanced Mode" by pressing the F7 key.
3. Go to the "Advanced" tab.
4. Scroll down to "Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology" and enter.
5. Select your Optane(TM) module. May display as something along the lines of "PCIe 1.0, Intel enter.
6. Under "Disk Actions:" there should be an option to "Reset to non-Optane." This option will reset your module and allow you to detect and enable it again.

Funny story,
I viewed your video about a couple months ago when I built a new PC with a 1tb hard drive paired with 64gb optane module. Worked perfectly until just recently when I swapped out a 1060 VGA card for a 1080 and the PC failed to boot and Windows failed to repair the OS. Good thing was that I had an xtra SSD which held games and important pictures and an old HDD holding Windows 8, which actually booted up on my brand spanking-new hardware!!! So I decided to backup anything important into the SSD through Windows 8 and followed your guide on installing Windows 10 again with optane! Thank you sir, you saved my ass twice in a year!!!!

Great. It worked for me, although my board is a MSI Z370A Pro, but the main steps are basically the same

I was facing the same issue but found my mistake, corrected it and now everything is fine.
Intel optane memory works only on BIOS mode set to UEFI. It won't install on Legacy mode. Next you've to convert your HDD into GPT partition. After that install Win 10 64 bit OS from a USB key that is UEFI compatible. This is the solution. After installing Win 10, install Intel optane memory driver. It will install the memory without any error.

I have problem installing the intel optane memory. The error i receive is “unsupported system bios or system bios is set on legacy mode, contact your bios for the latest version or support”. I have msi Z270 gaming M5, I5 7600k and windows 10 64 bit. Please someone guide me on how to resolve the issue. This is my first PC build and a simple and detailed explanation will be appreciated. Thank you guys.

I have Optane ready Z370 Aorus with lates BIOS runs a 240GB SSD drive wanting to install my Optane 32GB. Intel says, need to a activate OPTANE (from RST configuration) and Disable CSM. upon disabling CSM from BIOS system doesn't even boot, and the Motherboard LED shows VGA error, (which I have RADEON HD 5550)!!! Also when I just activate the Optane from the BIOS, then system doesn't recognise my SATA drives (SSD)!!!
I did go through your instruction though, but this makes my SSD not windows installable!!! PLEASE anyone any idea??!!
1. Can it be a VGA compatibility issue?!
2. OPTANE has any problem to run with SSD?!

Not working.. Aorus Gaming 7 OP. Bios is updated, all settings are appropriate. Am I supposed to only install optane software and not RST software? Or do I need to install them both?

So i should delete everything else and start a new fresh os to make optane works on my laptop

The issue I'm having is when I install Optane and install the software I can't click on Enable. It's greyed out, also windows doesn't detect Optane at all. Nether in Device Manager or Disk Management. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any advise?

I have a Samsung EVO 970 as my boot drive, but my second drive (2 TB HDD) isn't very fast. So if I wanted to install Optane to boost my HDD, how could I do that if my only M2 is already used? Can I use a M2 expansion card?
