This first time reaction to Ronnie James Dio has been a long time coming and who better to introduce me to this iconic vocalist than someone who absolutely adores this singer and first suggested him to me? Incredible vocalist/analyst/educator, Elizabeth Zharoff from @TheCharismaticVoice will be showing me Rainbow's "Stargazer" for my first time hearing Dio. I hope you enjoy watching my ears get absolutely totalled by the skills and musicianship on display in this song.

Who else is re-watching months later for the sheer joy of seeing Julia and Elizabeth fawn over RJD?

Forever, the 5 foot man with the 10 foot voice. We'll never get another Dio, but damn is it always a pleasure to go back and listen to the gems he left.

Welcome to the voice of the greatest voice to ever grace rock, metal or for that matter music. Ronnie was so underrated and sadly he hasn't gotten what he deserves and that is to be in the Hall of Fame. Ronnie didn't sell out. He stayed true to his craft and was known as a humble man by all who knew him. The fans were what mattered to him. He NEVER lost sight of that. He literally lived to perform for those who came to see him every night. Oh and by the way... He was, is, and will ALWAYS be The Man On The Silver Mountain.

I feel like I descended into more excited shrieks in this video over any other. What an absolute MONSTER of a vocalist. I cannot wait to get into more Dio... want to help me choose? Comment what I should look at next.

You two are like giddy school girls. That switch to total professional music critics and back again. Your joy is contagious.

Ronnie is just simply the greatest heavy metal singer ever. That voice is effortless...and he sounded like that til he was in his sixties. Endless power.... Total legend.

The cheeky smile of @TheCharismaticVoice around 14:04 when she knows what's coming is great. Good job both of you, nice video

I absolutely LOVE the fact that vocal coaches and trained singers finally see the brilliance of RJD's voice us metalheads have been saying since forever... this song STILL gives me chills as i find it to be one (if not THE) best vocal performance! Thank you for reacting to this and for appreciating his talent! Much respect!

Dio had no formal vocal training but he learned to master breath control from playing the trumpet as a child. He sang in bands from high school onwards and began his recording career in the late 50s, so he had plenty of experience by this point in time.

I am 52 in November one of my biggest regrets I never got a chance to see Ronnie James Dio live and I really wish I had done.

Ronnie was classically trained as a trumpet player, but self-taught as a vocalist! He explained that he simply applied the breathing techniques he had learned on trumpet to vocals at the time. Great video! Keep up the good work, much love!

Re-watching this and seeing Elizabeth's face during the song intro. She looks like a proud parent watching her child take their first steps.

R.I.P. Ronnie. A small man with a gigantic voice who never gave up his fight for life.

Ronnie James Dio's father used to make him practice the trumpet from when he was 5 years old for 3 hours a day. He learnt how to use his dirapraym playing trumpet and transitioned the skill into his singing. It is all in the Dio Documentry "Dreamers never die". He was not only an amazing singer but he was an amazing giving person. The end of the documentry made me cry.

This was a delight to watch. Seeing Elizabeth giddy with anticipation, while trying to hold back her comments so as not to spoil things for Julia, was priceless. Throughout the song, Elizabeth knew what was coming and which parts would really grab Julia, but she was holding back her excitement. The same thing happens when fans watch these reaction videos. We sit there thinking, “Just wait ‘til you get a load of what’s coming next!” I wish RJD was alive to see these classically trained vocalists nerd out and swoon over his greatness. Hopefully someone has shared these videos with Dio’s widow, because I think she’d love them.
