I have fond memories of playing Smash 64 with my step dad, he always played as green kirby. He had no idea what he was doing, but he always insisted he was having fun and I'd make him play for so long to fill the void my oldsr siblings left when they moved out on their own.

Green Kirby is my favourite Kirby.

i think in ultimate since dark meta knight is an alt costume for metaknight it's probably safe to say kirby's monochrome color is also a reference to mirror kirby

Meta knight is apart of Kirby's species, Meta knight is a adult however while Kirby is a literal baby

The blue and red Kirby variants are most likely because of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, having players 3 and 4 be blue and red.

7th Kirby's color seems to be more similar to when he got any of copy ability in Kirby's adventures

The 7th Color could also be a reference to Suplex Kirby in Kirby Super Star.

Green Kirby appeared in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee before Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. Promotional artwork of Plasma Kirby with a green colour scheme was also made for Kirby Super Star, but he doesn't appear green in-game.

Edit: Someone in a reply to another comment of mine here mentioned that the specific design featured in Super Smash Bros. games since Brawl was based off of Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

Yellow Kirby is what Miyamoto told Sakurai what color he thought he should pick for Kirby as Kirby only had appeared on gameboy and had no color yet.

Yellow one looks like Pac-Man because of the feet being almost red
