DJI Neo Picture Quality - Picture Perfect or a Poor Second to the Mini 4 Pro?

I take a closer look at the DJI Neo and its Camera Specs, and try and show how good the Picture Quality of the Neo is. Is it a fair to compare the DJI Neo to the DJI Mini 4 Pro for picture and video quality? I show how good the Neo Pictures are, and where they fall down.

'Adequate' is exactly the word I'd use too. Because it's from DJI people seem to have totally unrealistic expectations for the Neo. They're wanting Mavic 3 Pro quality in a sub £200 drone, wise up for chrissake, people. I'm not a beginner, I've a Mavic 2 Pro and a Mini 3 Pro for 'real' stuff - I bought the Neo because it's a fun little drone thats easy to carry around and can be operated without a controller. This Neo is just the beginning, when the Neo+ or Pro or 2 or whatever it gets called comes along we'll get much improved specs. At the minute the Neo' s biggest problem is that it's so light a good fart would blow it away.

Yeah, I think "adequate" is a correct assessment. The camera quality matches the price point and intended purpose.

Hi Ian, I believe the difference is in the software, the pixels just capture light and then the software modifies it. As a new DJI product we need to give them a bit of a chance to give us some updates and for sure the camera performance will improve.

We got ours we love it. It’s for some action shots and big reveals when we travel. We don’t expect Mini 4 pro footage. But this thing is much easier and better than our HS720g from Holystone which we never used in the end.

Yes a Neo pro or 2 would be great. But this thing is fun and with reduced sharpness and fixed exposure, plus a free Neo Lut I found online it’s more than acceptable for us. Is it pro level, no but neither am I. Do I buy a 200 dollar guitar and expect it to perform like my 7500 main gigging guitar? No. Will the 200 dollar one play well, once I set it up, yes. Will average punters know, nope.

Freewell has some ND filters available now and I’ve seen a couple sample video of someone using the ND8 and ND 16 and for what the drone is, it looked pretty darn good!

Thanks for the video Ian. Still waiting for the Neo to start shipping into the USA. The Neo appears to be good bang for the buck. I plan on using it mostly for honing my skills as I am quicker to risk a Neo than a $1k+ drone.

As a first time drone and for the price it should be, it's a good picture - noise aside and it's fun. It will also encourage any one who enjoys it to spend more money on a better drone. In the meantime it's just for fun. Good video Ian thanks.👍👍

Well said Ian. It does what it say on the box nothing else, people should stop comparing and crying about the quality against drones costing 4 times more. It does what I need it's fun, flies and takes photos. My mini 3 and 4 had way to much for me so suites me perfectly 👌 thanks

Its not so much as how many megapixels a camera has but the quality of the lens your using. When I sorted my photography business, I was using a Nikon D3 which cost over £3, 000 which was 12 megapixel and lenses costing over £1, 500. People should not complain about the quality of images of drones at this price. You get what you pay for. I sold all my gear when I retired and just use drones for personal use. Ive owned all the DJI Air range and the Mavic 3 Classic. Now looking forward to new releases.

Some say the video is too sharp, but I agree with you Ian, it's not that bad out of the box and zi believe it can be adjusted if you have a compatible controller.

Bright sunny day the NEO is ok, but try same shots in low light and see how much of a difference there is.

But remember the neo can also be a fbv drone and it won’t necessarily break if you slam it anti a brick wall

Thanks for posting Ian; sorry however as I disagree with your thoughts; the Neo is an amazing offering however the price reflects the quality of the Video / Photos!; there really is no comparison with the Mini 4 Pro (or 3 for that matter) not even close!!!; I have ordered the RcN3 to see if the Video quality can be improved; in Australia you can pick the Neo up (on its own) for just $270, so regardless of Video quality, still a bit of a bargain !!!

For me it's kinda irrelevant whether the picture is any good because the noise it makes means I'd never consider buying it!!
