A lot of your questions 3dprintingnerd answered on his video! The pressure/strain gauge and the modular bed has 16 thermistors, so if one fails, you can fix it.

I instantly fell in love, but damn that price is brutal

Expansion joints are a similar concept for what they do with concrete. Think of side walk where they have the crack every 4 to 5 feet. It just allows the bed to grow in size in the x and y instead of the z.

So excited you chose the xl over the resin!

Love the build volume, multiple extruders, being able to do away with bed leveling and Live Adjust Z entirely, and finally, no more bed slinging!

Heated beds use one of two strategies: 1. Milled aluminum plate with AC heater. 2. PCB DC heater. The XL and the Prusa print farm to my knowledge are the only printers in existence that use tiled PCB heaters, and they're a nice solution to the problem of bowing print surfaces due to thermal expansion.

YES! So excited for the XL! Definitely large enough for helmets.

On our minis, once we did it once the bed level worked. They are using load cells to verify the first layer.

There are not other machines to my knowledge in this price point that have multiple small beds for heating.

You do not need to level the panels, the machine deals with the lack of perfection in the Z axis.

My guess for the plate is that it is the same, but it is MUCH larger and therefore heavier so it will flex more, could be wrong though.

RGB ALL THE THINGS! more or less lol.

Great video as always sir! We will be doing a deep dive into all the stuff too! Pre ordered the big boy 5 extruders!

I ordered mine yesterday. It looks like a fantastic printer and the start of a new generation of FDM printers. I finished my RAT RIG 400 about a month ago, this looks even better and about the same price.

Touchscreens can either have a ton of trouble registering taps (resistive) or register ghost touches (capacitive) depending on how lousy the electronics or mounting are. I for one prefer the encoder wheel to the touchscreen on the $5000 printer at work.

I've probably worked with those LEDs before, they're very likely RGBW 5050 Neopixels.

This XL sounds pretty impressive! 😎
I was also amongst the first 30 min, or at least I want to believe that 😂

I ordered within the first 12 hours I'm guessing, so probably weeks behind you in receiving mine :) The new bed leveling without the need for live Z is huge for me. I ordered the 2 tool version because I do want to get back to multi-material (had a mmu2 on my MK3s, but removed it and put on a Bondtech LGX because it was too finicky for my taste (runs great now). Also the nozzle quick change feature should be very handy. Doubt I'll ever use the full build height but I can see where I'll use the bigger x and y to make say 20 copies of small things at once vs 10 or 12 as I do on my MK3.

Ordered the 5 extruder setup. Looking forward to being able to print with multiple colors and materials. Think supports different color or material than main material.

0:49 you had 4 Extruders on bottom, Think you meant "5" :)

4:17 It's because materials tend to expand when heated. With the gaps, they will not deform, since there will be space.

Its not flimsy, its just so big that it appears that way. The thickness to size ratio is very different

for this price point, who are they targeting?

If you had to pick, would you get a large scale resin or large scale FDM printer?

I’ve got an Anycubic Mono X and Vyper, and while they’re print volumes are decent, I would love to have something that could do a full scale helmet…

Side note, I've owned 4 Prusa Minis for my business and not had any of your issues save for the annoying disassembly required during some print jams. Sorry you've had what sounds like a hit or miss experience!
