Really beautiful finish detail on that Spidey mask at the end there, but what a bunch of hoops to jump through and errors to overcome. For the price point, and given the Prusa name, the thing should just turn on and work. The large build volume makes this really attractive for someone wanting to build larger pieces, but that price point...whew!

By the time Prusa gets these tuned and faster, I think the market will find the XL is too little, too late, and too expensive.

Another bonus for multiple toolheads is not to have different colors or materials, but nozzles. You can for example have a .6 and a .4 in different tools. You won't be using both in a single print (yet), but it is nice to have one "on call".

I just got an XL to play with a few days ago. Great printer, great finish. I love how the printer has all internal slots in the profiles covered and has a full closed metal bottom. No hidden corners where pieces of filament or extrusion "get lost". Easy to clean out with a brush or the vacuum cleaner. It is not a cheap printer but this is actually the first printer that I feel does not need any mods to be usable.
@6:09 "exactly following the instructions" but ... if you followed the instructions exactly, the steel sheet should be on the heated bed since that is what was asked in step 5.2 in the build manual and I have not seen instructions to remove it again further on.

Reliability, quality, and the ability to sustain it knowing that firmware and software is always getting better is why i am willing to buy a prusa. Excited to get my XL for tool changing

Thanks for sharing the first impressions! Seems clear there are better value printer choices for single material work. It’s all going to come down to value/reliability of tool changer. 👍

With that price tag I would have hoped it have no issues and come with the secondary hotend. I honestly forgot that this was coming. For the price you could buy multiple Neptune 3 Plus.

From the Prusa website "New orders will be processed in the first half of 2024“. Sounds extremely over promised here and this was essentially a crowd funding project. There are several great alternatives available now and even better options coming next year (but thank you for sharing Uncle Jesse! We enjoy your videos.

Between the Qidi Max 3 and K1 Max the Prusa XL is a hard sell. Nevermind not knowing if/when Bambu will drop a large format Core XY. Hard to justify the price/wait.

This level of printer would be revolutionary if it released in 2021 in an alternate universe without Bambu X1's and Qiditech Plus and Max 3's ever coming to market. In 2023 in our world it's priced at twice what it's worth unfortunately.

Ty for confirming that I'm not the only one seeing intensive stringing on my 2H XL.

Couple things Prusa should probably do with the WiFi:
1. Make their own module and harden it. This way they're in full control of the module's firmware, they can add nice things like sign into a WiFi with a QR code, or hotspot mode. If Arduino can release a $20 board based on a uBlox ESP32-S3 (?), I'm pretty sure Prusa can pull it off.
2. Work towards an open standard for local networked printing. Peer to peer, client-server, whatever the tech, they're in a really good position to set the standard for all hobbyists and small-scale farms; just give us an option that doesn't require a subscription to a datacenter (coughMarkforgedcough) where who knows what will happen to our 3D models.

I love Prusa and preordered an XL within the first 5 min but haven't pulled the trigger on my preorder yet. $2K+ is a lot of money for a machine with printed components and I'm just not convinced by the prints I've been seeing yet.

I am curious if there is still a hot market for these. A couple of years ago this would be an easy homerun.

In 2023....there are a lot more options.

Personally, I am still going with Voron 2.4 a lot less money.

I've preordered the XL back in June and still waiting. Looking forward to a review. After using Bambu carbon, i love how it works out of a box without forever issues. Its disconcerning that a Prusa needing so much fine tuning. Kinda defeats the premium price.

Awesome initial look! I've had similiar issues with stringing. I have 2-tool version and occasionally the stringing causes imperfections on the first layer.

I was and still am a PRUSA fan and owner... but the next few years are going to be challenging for them. Bambu Labs are clearly trying (and in my opinion succeeding) to replace PRUSA as the go to reliable prosumer 3D printer. They just released a MINI killer and now they are coming for the XL. I hope PRUSA can step up and give them a hard fight, the ones that stant to win more are us users.

I think this machine is amazing but the market has evolved. I feel that someone will release something on par or better in short order. Also, the price is wow. For that price it should be 5 or 6 printheads standard.

Prusa fanboys ultimate retort had always been "it just works" that's why you pay $2-3x for it. You get it, take it out of the box and assemble it and it just works. For years and years, so reliable. A little maintenance and use a workhorse you can count on for years to come. I've gotten many comments about how my ender is trash yadda yada.. imo Bambu put prusa on the back foot and it seems they still don't have much of a plan to recover. Or maybe they do but it's a slow rollout. Idk but I do think it has to be getting kinda hard to justify the price premium vs the competition. I'll be honest, when the xl was announced i was like 🤩"ooooh new shiny" but knew even if i could afford to id never spend $2500 bucks for one. Especially with voron being a q thing. Now that Bambu had their offerings out and all the other companies are scrambling too catch up it seems like prusa is being well and truly left behind. Their new shiny is all 3-5 year old tech/features for ridiculous money, and it doesn't "just work" anymore...

I know this is their latest and most exciting but it just feels behind. Got an X1C and a few weeks later cancelled my preorder for the XL. I really hope Prusa finds a way to catch up and stay competitive.
