The economy is not gender neutral, but actually relies on gender imbalances to function and grow.

In this five-part lecture series, this renowned scholar guides us through the field of feminist economics. Feminist economics shows how our understanding of the economy, theory and policy changes with the adoption of a gender perspective in economic thinking.

Nice to see a video about feminism that is about the real issue today -- not hot button distractions from the "cultural wars" designed to portray equality movements negatively. Sexism and racism were established to allow a few ultra-rich people to use free, underpaid and disposable labor.

Every women is an economist whether she is educate or not. I've observed that my mother is not educated but the way she adjust monthly financial structure of our house is really outstanding. She even knows to get the several profits from 10 rs. It means, It doesn't matter that it is rural or urban women, She can do something very great if she get any opportunity.

"Surely, the fact that women have less skill or less education is an aspect of discrimination."
The premise seems flawed right from the opening: women have overtaken men for college degrees, at least in the West. Are these under-educated men being discriminated as well? Perhaps we should only compare men and women when the metrics are beneficial to "feminist economics".

Women in workforce make all the sense, economically and on every level. Pity, we are still debating brining more and more women in workforce.

My question is why was Jayati Ghosh used to make this video and discuss this topic? She is a developmental economist, not a gender/race economist. She has one recent paper on the topic of gender and it is not even published (file cabinet as WP for nearly 11 years). I wonder why you could not get Christine Exley, Alex Imas, Judd Kessler, Muriel Niederle, Lise Vesterlund, Linda Babcock, and the list goes on...

I mean the quality of this video was self-defeating when Jayati Ghosh said in the opening line "surely the fact that women have less skill or education is an aspect of discrimination." There is uncertainty in her language already.

There are papers by Nunn and many others expressing why gender roles came to exist and it was not because of discrimination even if women do self-select differently these days. There are papers by Eckel and MANY others showing risk preferences are inherently different between men and women regardless of where they are in the world and what kind of social organization they live under. This was even tested on children as young as 2-3 using a simplified version of the Gneezy-Potter method. I believe they find even little baby girls are less risk-seeking than similarly aged baby boys. These impact educational and skill development as they get older. This is evolutionary and it started way before our time for reasons unrelated to direct discrimination, we have known this for a while now.

If a man marry his Employee then how that will reduce National Income?

The money he is paying to his employee he can now Invest in Share market/Business.

It will increase the Investment and create more jobs.

When Husband and wife live together it reduces the cost of rent and hiring cost of cook.

The statistics have consistently shown that career women are far less happy than women who take care of their family and take care of their community via charitable actions.

Women of course should be free to choose whatever they want to pursue. But the data, along with thousands of years of human biological and social evolution, show that a more traditional lifestyle is the lifestyle that most women find most conducive to a fulfilling life.

Climbing corporate leaders and building careers is far less fulfilling to women than taking care of others. It has been proven to be innate and biological for decades. Look up the Big Five personality traits and the differences between men and women. It's not some cultural nonsense. It's female human biology.

If only she knew socialist economics as well as feminist economics then we could make some real structural change. Diversifying the capitalist class wont create a better society

Perhaps we should move beyond a system that looks to exploit, and move towards giving everyone enough for a fair shot at life. Men and women have different comparative advantages, (an Economic term) and yet she starts by handwaving over it by saying "it's only childbirth" without unpacking the physical, mental, life style, and other considerations which make child-bearing possible. And what's required for proper rearing. We need to value our gendered differences and not throw the baby out with the bath water

REDEFINING GENDER TERMS

So here's an idea I thought of for the feminists out there.

Here are some reasonable gender replacement terms for both sexes that I thought of.

sol instead of male and luna instead of female.

The idea stems from that the sun, light/daytime, chaos and fire represents masculine energy in the laws of yin and yang, and the moon, darkness/night time, calmness and water represents feminine energy.

sol comes from the latin word "solar" which means sun and luna comes from the latin word "lunar" which means moon.

And just use guys/gals and ladies/gents instead of man/woman

Feminist economics is when you have to ask some chick in a mini skirt if she still consents to a transaction 43 times while she is ringing it up. Then, 14 years later, she accuses you of rape because she regrets setting her price so low. 😆

Recognition and Compensation for Unpaid Labor ... CHRIST they're still on this ?

Still no detailed economic plan of how to achieve this goal. Still talking as if its an exclusive right that men wont also be rewarded in. Which most men do participate in housework ... progress

Modern feminist want to relive the 1970s so bad ... progress has been made.

As if every work a man does, he gets paid...😂😂😂😂

If shaw doesn't pay the wife...the wife should get a job and national income goes up. If shaw decides to divorce wife for working, the wife should sue him for damages and use that money to start a business. Either way, national income goes up. Whats problem?. In many families, both parents work, and both parents do chores. If there is a new born...the husband can stay at home, and the wife should work if the wife earns more on her job than the husband...whats problem? If the husband earns more instead, just switch positions with the wife. If the child starts school, both parents should work. Whats problem?
