Why I'm So Frugal

Here's the real story on how I became so frugal and why I have a Frugal Living lifestyle. Over the past decade i've battled $250k in medical debt, paid off all my cars, house, any credit card debt, and became financially independent. I'll share how my expensive lifestyle caused me panic attacks, caused me to become an alcoholic , and I was unhappy about the direction my life was headed. Eventually, it allowed me to save up a few years salary and walk away from a job I no longer loved. I found a job I desired and ended up taking more than a $100k paycut.

I'm in a wheelchair and on a fixed income and i live below my means. I drive a 25 year old car that i got for $800, I do pay a mortgage but i bought the house as a foreclosure and my payments are only $650. I'm very frugal and so this inflation hasn't really affected me at all. I don't eat out, i use one 8-gallon tank of gas a month, i have all the prices on the grocery items i use, memorized for the 4 local grocery stores, so I'm always getting the best price/deal. I have altered some grocery items in order to keep the grocery bill fixed as the prices have gone up. Doing this slowly, i didnt/don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. My grocery bill is the same as it was 4 years ago.
In addition, since i cannot get a regular job anymore, i took 2 years, 4-6 hours a day, 5 days a week to teach myself how to paint paintings. I now sell my artwork for extra money. I have a hobby that pays me, how cool is that? I do all my own yardwork IN MY WHEELCHAIR. It's fun, i like the challenge.
Living frugally under my means allows me to put $300-$500 a month in savings or use it to work on the house, etc. I'm able to save that much money on a fixed income with a mortgage payment. What?? Yep. I cut my own hair as well. I wash and re-use ziploc bags, i got window unit air conditioners so i only have to cool the room I'm in instead of the whole house.
I even buy my power wheelchairs on FB marketplace for $300. They are $3500 new, and my copay would be more than twice that amount. I always buy the same exact model so the parts are interchangeable and I've taught myself over 9 years how to fix them. I have 2 right now and 2 others I'm using for parts. This way i don't have to wait 4 months for medicare to send someone to fix the chairs. Surprisingly, most of the used chairs i buy have barely been used because they belonged to an old person who died.
There's all kinds of ways to save money and be frugal.
And i live stress-free. I pay my bills once a month then don't have to look at finances again for another month. It's wonderful. So if i can live abundantly on a fixed income in a wheelchair, others can do the same. I have no debt except the house. I pay cash for everything. Thanks for the video

I grew up poor, and realized you do not need anything more than a place to live and good food to eat. Been working since 1990 and my dad and I built my home. I am so grateful I have never had a health issue. Good for you being able to turn your life around and I have a feeling you will never have to deal with cancer again!

I'm British, and I've been saying for year's that financial budgeting classes should be taught in schools. Even just one class a week.

I retired early at 57 in 2021 . I had grown to hate my job, I worked retail in a pharmacy. Covid added a lot of stress to the already stressful job. I felt trapped, I couldn’t quit because I thought I wouldn’t have health insurance yet staying there exposed me to the virus. When the vaccine became available I left . I have always lived frugal and have a pretty nice retirement built up . I was able to get insurance through ACA which was a relief. I am so grateful to have a payed for house with no debt . The year after I quit work everything in my house seemed to break . If I had not had a stocked bank account I would have been stressed out about it, but I was able to take care of the issues and move on. It is wild how much money that is wasted on eating out, clothes we don’t need or wear, miracle beauty products that gather dust in the drawers, and other useless plastic crap . I have discovered it is better to have 10 tops that fit me well and are of good quality that I like than have 40 tops that just hang there while I wear the same few over and over.

Love your content, so much of what you say resonates with me!
I’m super frugal because I have made it my intention to pay off all of my debt and secure my financial future. I never want to have to wait for payday to pay a bill or pick up some groceries or give money to someone in need - ever again. I am single, and was raised in a poor household by a single mom raising 4 kids - and this is the first time in my life that I have been in control of my finances instead of sticking my head in the sand and being afraid to look at my bank balance. I love being frugal!!

I'm fairly frugal and semi-retired, doing meaningful part-time work. I'm doing my best to stay debt-free so that's why I strive to be modest with spending. House is paid for and I drive a car with over 200k miles. Life is mostly good and I'm a big fan of simple pleasures.

I recently relocated to Appalachia from the corn-belt. I work at a great place with some great coworkers. I make a decent income and do well for a single and child free male. 8 more years until retirement with both SS and a pension. I'm focused on buying a "catstead" and downsizing/simplifying my life. I'm also focused on helping others in making a significant positive difference in their lives.

I don't have a Costco membership but I do have one st Sam's. I kid you not, I bought 6 shirts & a dress from there for $25...$25 friggin bucks. I can't tell you how happy that made me. I got what needed for $25. Name brand items too. Ok, I'll calm down now. Great video.

You may not be normal but you are now much deeper and happier than you have ever been.
Far away from superficiality.

2020 really revealed how reckless I was with my finances. Thank God, I met Dave Ramsey on YouTube. Paid off all debt and I’ve a 6 month emergency fund and I’m saving for a house. Road is long, but I’ve a clearer picture on how to properly handle my finances, stay clear from debt, and have lost all appetite on keeping up with the Joneses.

I’m in the same boat. My company recently was bought out and I now have a new boss that I hate. I don’t drink every day but I drink heavily on the weekends. I have slashed my expenses and have been building up cash. Trying to figure out what the next chapter in my life. Love the video.
