It’s June 6th, 1944 D-Day. At Pointe du Hoc the Rangers need to scale the cliffs and capture or disable the guns. Aside from the forces that are to fight at the five major landing zones, many smaller groups do their duty all over Normandy. The Rangers task is crucial for reducing the losses at Omaha and Utah beaches. Pointe du Hoc was a strategic battery that, if left intact, could wreak havoc on the Allied forces. The success of their mission hinges on a daring, swift, and unorthodox move. But no plan survives first contact with the enemy…

My grandfather, James Kenneth Davis was behind enemy lines that morning. He was a member of the so called *Band of Brothers* who dropped in during the night via parachute.
He was later captured, escaped, and captured again. Sent to a camp in Poland and then he escaped again! Joined up with Russian forces who facilitated his return to service. He was an officer.
Died of old age in Everett, WA.

It’s slightly late but still in time to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Salute to all those brave people 🫡 this video does an excellent job of marking this occasion. Yarnhub never fails to deliver exceptional quality!

Many people almost immediately think that Omaha is the hardest sector of Normandy during the D-Day Landings. But the men at Pointe du Hoc laid their lives to prevent further casualties on the already heavy bloodhshed at Omaha. Scaling a cliif while being shot, cut off, and bombarded, and then holding that same position with diminishing supplies and a long wait for reinforcements, they truly are the greatest generation of men to ever live.

Braeburn: Sergeant Randall! The guns are gone! They're not here!

Randall: WHAT?!!!

Braeburn: THE - GUNS - AREN'T - HERE!!!! The Krauts must've moved 'em someplace else!!

Randall: Well hell, keep movin', we're sittin' ducks out here! Head for rally point Baker and set up that roadblock! Taylor and I will look for the guns from there!

Yarnhub is back! As an American vet thanks for making a video for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. We must remember the brave American, British, and Canadian airman, soldiers, and sailors who gave everything to break into Fortress Europe. We must also remember the French collaborators who gave the British intel on the French guns who were also executed by the Germans. Great video as per usual.

What a fantastic snippet of that day. Just one of so many similar stories that was going on around it. Thank you again, Yarnhub for immortalising another incredible piece of history. ❤

Lieutenant Colonel Rudder later became the president of Texas A&M University and transformed it from a small, all-male university to the largest university in the US by enrollment. Rudder Tower on campus is named in his honor and is 110 feet tall, the exact height of Pointe du Hoc.

I'm sure I speak for all Texas A&M students past, present, and future when I say that we are proud to call James Earl Rudder a fellow Aggie.

These animations are genuinely so good now it's amazing.

You guys could make a full-length movie that could probably hold up for a while at this point.

Well done.

This is the only documentary that I have seen that actually tells the story about the cliff collapse that aided the Rangers assault up the cliff face, all the others imply that they had to climb the cliff face at its full height, thank you, I just learned something new today.

I actually read a book about Ranger Lomell during this battle. Crazy to think just how easily the entire operation could've ended in disaster on that beach but didn't.

I'm glad to have visited Pointe du Hoc. The massive craters left from the USS Texas and the aerial bombardment were absolutely astonishing. The remaining bunkers and the positions of the French 155s are still partially intact. I got real close to the cliff and I was just in awe that the Rangers just didn't stop climbing and continued to attack regardless of their casualties. God bless the Rangers. Rangers lead the way.

My great grandpa was friends with James earl rudder. My grandma used to sit in his lap growing up. I went to these cliff edges in middle school and saw everything that happened. This is an incredible video, I’ve always wondered what he experienced

My Great Grandfather's brother fought in the Battle of Normandy. I don't know if he took part of the D-Day landings or not. If he did take part of the landing, he would have fought on Omaha Beach. He was killed in action five days after the landings. He fought in the US 1st Infantry Division, The Big Red One. God rest his soul and all those brave men who fought alongside him. Happy 80th anniversary of D-Day.

You know, I have rarely seen an animator so effectively capture the human expression of "Them Navy boys made us a hill! Ground Pounders, form up... we're going to make them spicy pinwheel boys die on it..."

The animation here is peerless - even the screen has droplets of sea spray . Brilliant.
