The Ancestors BEFORE Adam

The Ancestors before Adam is Rise of Truth's tracking of the Ancestors of Adam, which include the Homo sapiens before Adam. We take a look at the evolution of Hominins and the fossil evidence for the first human-like species such as Homo erectus and their relationship to Homo sapiens and the first human. We compare the Young Earth Creationists' time of Adam to the scientific evidence of when the first Homo sapiens existed and discover the conflict between science and religion once more. The theory of evolution and natural selection play a role in the evidence presented. The goal is to get to the Age of Adam or the Timeline of Adam and narrow down the approximate age of the Adam of religion.

CORRECTION: In the video I stated that Homo erectus had a larger brain; that is an error. Homo erectus had a smaller brain than Homo sapiens. Thanks to viewer “xeno” for pointing to out that slip.

A priest in my school used to give religeous instruction in the Biology classroom with a large poster of the evolution from apes to Man. One brave school boy asked how Adam and Eve and evolution could both be correct. The priest's response, "You don't believe there was a man and woman called Adam and Eve do you? Of course not! They represented Mankind and WomanKind people back then wouldn't have been able to understand the concept of evolution." That always stayed with me. I think the problem with fundamentalists who belive the Old Testament is the genune unquestionable word for word of God miss the Jewish approach to the scriptures. Which is we are not meant to take everything in it literaly, it is the message that important not whether it actually happened or not. Like the debate of King Solomon, we know he never existed or if he did he certainly was not what the scriptures say he was, a great and powerful ruler. But Jews don't hung up on or get upset with the idea he may not have existed, it's the message they focus on. And I think that the way Adam should be approached, it's not important if he existed or not, it's the message it carries.

This is such an interesting topic that my husband really loves. We talk evolution vs creation all day long in our house. I would like to know your opinion on the accuracy of carbon dating and how they came up with the exact dates of homo erectus? Great video.

I think that much of biblical record is symbolic, including the age timelines. However, I think more important than understanding the “whens” is to understand the “whys”. Most important is establishing a world of peace. Can it be done through the unity of science and religion? That could certainly be an important tool, since it addresses both internal and external truth.

Interesting video, but Homo erectus brains were not larger than that of Homo sapiens and were smaller by about 300cc. Also, the combination of religion and science here is quite intriguing but doesn't seem to give much scientific evidence as to why Adam did exist, other than reference to religious texts.
