I like how “Miller” is the animal expert in this game, because in MGSV, that’s Ocelot’s thing, and I choose to believe that either:

1. Ocelot is whispering all of these cool animal facts into Liquid’s ear while he’s on these calls.

Or

2. Liquid was just sulking in Mother Base’s Intel room during the entirety of V having to listen to Ocelot explain Donkeys and Vultures and shit to Venom Snake, and he hasn’t been able to forget it.

I love how this optional convo about Ravens can immediately Segway into the (normally mandatory) talk about Naomi. Depending on what type of player you are, it can give you 2 different perspectives.

If you don't regularly use your codec, you're suddenly surprised by a Codec call from "Miller" whom you typically only talked to if you decide to call him. And you see Miller, for the first time in this whole game, become an active character in the plot. Even more jarring if you played MG2 on the MSX since he's *also* just an optional call buddy in that game.

But if you like to call him to hear about the Fauna and other stuff, you call him here expecting a normal call about Ravens...and then *BOOM*. Right out of nowhere he transitions into a massive revelation to Snake that Naomi's potentially a traitor. What's normally a comfort talk about various trivia hits you out of nowhere with a major plot point.

Either one of those options gives you a different but still really cool experience. And seeing Miller suddenly becoming a major player gets you all shocked and you feel like you finally have someone you actually know that fully has your back. And then, well, you know.

I first played mgs1 from a demo disc that came in cereal boxes in canada. Came with crash bandicoot 2 demo, bloody roar demo, mgs1 demo, that onion and dog dancing game demo. Damn i miss buying cereal and getting ps1 demo bundles in the box.
