Day 3 - Anchor | BREATH - A 30 Day Yoga Journey

Today’s lesson invites us to focus on anchoring the thoughts of a busy mind with the tools of our practice. If you are new to meditation or to yoga, this can be a bit of a challenge, so in this session I introduce a very useful breath technique called Ujjayi to help us train the brain and body to focus as one.

On days where your mind is in the future, or maybe your heart is in the past, this breath can help you ground in the present.

The mantra today is…

My breath is my anchor, my anchor is breath.

Let me know how it goes for you in the comment section down below!

The environment of the yoga I choose to teach and share is one that doesn’t just accept but encourages you to show up as is. It says, come as you are, darling. I add the darling in.
It is safe here. Come, darling, soften inward toward your breath.

my 60 year old dad is doing this journey with me!! he’s only dabbled in yoga and it’s his first time doing it as a daily practice. i bought him fresh yoga clothes for christmas especially for this. we do it seperate because it’s more personal, but it’s so lovely to reflect on our yoga practices at the end of the day. so far he’s loving it! thank you so much adriene you absolute star! forever grateful☺️xx

"As long as we're breathin', I think we're doing great."

This sentence sounds motivation for me, thank you Adriene ✨

To everybody who is reading this before the practice dealing with anxiety: I did, too and as soon as I clicked play and listened to Adriene's voice I calmed down and smiled. I am so proud of you all (and me) for doing this!! ... and my (first time) Ujjayi sounds like a mix of a cat purring and snoring - but I love my inner ocean already :D

Our dear friend Graham has needed a ventilator to take his breaths for nearly three weeks now. He was my favorite DAWG today. To all who read this comment, please take a moment to send out a positive thought or prayer for our "buddy-bud" Graham. <3 Thanks, Adriene, for creating this beautiful environment in which we are encouraged to take care of ourselves and send loving thoughts to each other. Your explanation of the ujjayi breath bubbled up a wonderful childhood memory of a conch shell I used to listen to whenever I would visit the bookshelves in my grandmother's basement.

anyone else doing BREATH in their own time? I think it's amazing that others can do the 30 days in one go, personally I am doing a practise every two to three days, because it works best for me. xx

So excited my 6-year-old joined us for yoga today. She loved saying, "This one's for you, Violet!" to our dog every time we were in downward dog. Thanks Adriene!

Doing that mountain pose at 15 minutes, I had my eyes closed, and suddenly felt an impact against my chest.
My 4 month old kitten decided he wanted to sit on my shoulders while I was in mountain. Jumped from the nearby table up on to me.
Very cute.

The thing about the breath not being a performance, but being for myself, was a very powerful reminder for me that I live my life for me and not as a performance for the judgement of others. Thank you Adriene!

When I used to do gym yoga, one of the most used cues were for ujayi breath: “Your neighbor should be able to hear you.” It dud become more of a performance. The loudest yogis were viewed as the “best” ones. One guy did it extremely loudly even during savanna’s a, where it became so disruptive that a classmate spoke to him about it. Thanks to Adrienne for maximizing the breath and inner peace and minimizing the ego.

Last night I had a nightmare of drowning. This practice helped a lot to reconnect with my breath and not to be afraid of the "ocean". Thank you.
