8 days ago, I was searching for sad music to help pull out emotions. My mom had been on hospice dying of Cancer the previous 3 weeks. I never left her bedside. However, that day, the hospice nurse said she had 24 hours left if that.. Anyways, I discovered this song and this group that day. I played this song on repeat all that night, and I lost my beautiful mother at 5:55 am just before sunrise, on 6/22/22. That was a week ago today. I've literally had this song, Carry You, and State Lines on repeat non-stop since she passed...can't lie, the music has contributed to me crying probably 6 hours a day since, but it's helping to keep the emotions on the surface.. I feel so broken and alone. Im so lost without you Mom, I love you .
Anyways, not sure why I shared that, but the music is great in a lot of ways. Just discovered them.. now it will always remind me of this loss.

One my interpretations of this song is as follows:

The fisherman represents a man. As he is on his boat, it's a symbol of him living in this world day by day without any sort of connection towards anyone or anything else, especially a woman. As he is fishing, he saves this woman who happens to be a selkie (A woman who has the ability to live as a seal but shed her skin and live as a human as well). In folklore, once a man gets a hold of the selkie's shedded skin, she is to live under his rule and be his wife. The selkie represents a woman who happens to have another man in her life, but meeting this fisherman changes everything, as the fisherman might have saved her from a certain circumstance with her original love. This deed the fisherman has done for her has caused her to fall in love with him. As they live life together, the selkie cannot help but have this need to go back to the water. Water, being the original habitat of the selkie, is constantly calling her back, back to where she truly belongs (the water represents her original man she loved). But how can she leave the other man (fisherman) after what he has done for her? So instead she remains loyal to the fisherman, but it starts to physically and mentally take a toll on her. The selkie begins to avoid the water, but she can't help but think of it, reminisce of the water, the way it feels, the way it sounds, the way it smells... overall the way it is, and how the water and her are truly one, and cannot be separated for a long period of time. But again, her loyalty towards the fisherman reigns supreme. The fisherman, however, knows that she is suffering from this separation from the waters, therefore running back to her and hoping to save her from this unselfish, self-sacrificing loyalty she is giving unto him. He picks her up and runs to shore hoping she can live again (with the water), but he stops... he thinks... he feels the love for her running through every fiber of his being... but it's up to him now. Keep her and make her yours, or let her go, to be free with the water where she needs to be. The ending in my opinion ends with him giving her up to the waters, but as he is on the boat gazing upon the waters, it symbolizes the man always looking out for her, regardless of whether he is with her or not.

I am on the edge of ending it all for me. I felt so alone and empty. This song keeps me. It gives me reason to stop and keep me from ending my dear life. At least for some time. Every time I feel like ending it all again, I listen to this song and it takes me to a place where I can be me. No judgment, no expectations. I am just so empty.
